College kids are indeed screwed.
We're about to hire a full-time SDR out of Nigeria for $2K/month who's more fluent in AI than 99.9% of Americans.
Prediction:
College kids are screwed.
I鈥檓 changing my mind on AI.
It will drive a wedge between the competent and the average that is so wide the average and below average won鈥檛 be able to add value in white collar work.
Why hire a $100k a year college grad who knows nothing in NYC or San Fran when I can hire an AI native engineer in Colombia for half that?
Why hire an analyst when an AI native finance manager in South Africa is half the price and can do 3x the work?
Why hire an average sales person in the states for $100k when you can get a South African with Grok bot to be 10x as productive?
Global talent + AI is now much much closer to the best talent in America and much better than average talent in America.
What are all of these people going to do for work?
What do I train my kids to do to make sure they can earn a living?

"JD, habibi" became an instant viral trend across America
The trend was sparked by Democrat Abdul El-Sayed during his election night victory speech in Detroit. Upon winning his race to become the first Muslim American elected to the US Senate, El-Sayed used his speech to playfully jab at US Vice President JD Vance

I spent the last year living between Lagos and Nairobi...
Nigeria in particular has one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Yet three years ago, its currency, the naira, lost more than half its value.
To defend it, Nigeria鈥檚 central bank pays 21% for people to hold naira, among the highest rates anywhere.
Until now, those yields have been hard for most people to reach
Numo is a futures market for currencies like the naira where businesses can buy dollars at a fixed rate and traders can buy naira.
We鈥檙e on a mission to make the world鈥檚 most volatile currencies stable.
You can now trade the Nigerian naira from a stablecoin wallet. No Nigerian bank account required.
Introducing @numoforex (ALL18), a 24/7 futures exchange for emerging market currencies, starting with the naira.
Foreign traders can go long naira to earn the difference between Nigerian and US interest rates. Nigerian businesses that need dollars can lock in today鈥檚 exchange rate. Numo matches those two sides and already has over $700K in open interest.
Congratulations on the launch, @robertleifke!

Naira T-bills give +20% yield so fx traders are desperately trying to access it, while people in nigeria are looking to buy dollars to escape currency depreciation. Matching these 2 needs is genius.

There is no convincing explanation for why a candidate who finished third in the 2023 presidential election attracts this level of hostility from all directions. The intensity of the attacks raises questions that Nigerians deserve answers to.
Perhaps one day, we will finally understand what really happened in 2023.

I recently had a meeting with a couple of people, including some friends. At some point during the meeting someone whom I consider a friend, wanted to type something. I happened to be standing behind when I noticed the switch between Twitter accounts.
What caught my attention was the account he was switching to. To my utter surprise, it was an account that regularly post outright falsehoods, spreads malicious narratives, lies, and engages in coordinated attacks against me.
I honestly found this quite disturbing.
The troll account actually even has more followers than his personal account.
I would ordinarily have ignored something like this, but I am struggling with the urge to tag him and the troll account.
Sometimes, the people behind lies and rumours are people you consider friends. Social media gives people the cover of anonymity to post envy and hate but no worries, God鈥檚 got you.

The audacity to hate on someone for trying to make life more comfortable and encouraging others to priorities their productivity and comfort.
All while choosing to study abroad. At least be consistent. The Nigerian education system was here when you made that (rational) choice. How many people hated you for doing something that just made sense..Or does that mean you sold out on bad state of education in Nigeria?
I live and work in Nigeria. I contribute to the economy, from STEM education to financial technology, I pay my taxes, and have actively advocated and protested for a better Nigeria. I am here, doing my part to make this country better.
This is particularly disappointing coming from you, Rinu. I genuinely thought you were above the performative outrage merchants who ride waves of public discontent to build personal relevance.
Nigeria doesn't even rank among the world's top 50 solar energy users. Yet, many of the countries dominating that list have some of the most stable electricity grids in the world. People there still choose energy independence for convenience, resilience and productivity. Do you hate them too?
Perhaps the problem isn't really about concern for Nigerians. Perhaps outrage has simply become another tool for performing concern and harvesting public anger for personal relevance.
I have been consistent about this since 2016. I know how many people I have helped transition to solar, how many businesses I have advised at absolutely no cost, the number of free installations I have facilitated, and the countless hours of free consultations I have given.
Hate me all you want. I will continue to advocate for renewable energy as a practical alternative to an unreliable grid, while equally pushing for and supporting efforts towards a better national electricity grid..

I just ran some data to back up this post. I have so far generated 3.7 million Naira worth of electricity from solar this year. That is 16 Megawatt hours of electricity.
I asked Claude to calculate how much it would cost me doing the same with diesel and it was 12 M Naira if the diesel generator was running 10 hours per day on average.
I did not include the cost savings in gas for cooking and baking - and I bake my own bread -
The crazy thing is - the system has so much excess capacity that by noon a lot of excess solar goes to waste. This is why getting an electric car to use that excess solar would further save cost on petrol.
100% energy independence is good. Don't let anyone gaslite you.
Pull the trigger and get a competent solar install. You are already doing between 15m to 32m a year at the rate of your spend on diesel generator. 15m is the price of a decent sedan. At that price you have a tech that generates electricity from the sun and gives you a comfortable life.
You only live once bro.. your well-being, your productivity matters a lot.
I did spend considerably on my system but.. I have not a single regret. I am completely energy independent. When light was good in my Band A my system saves me between 350k to 500k a month on electricity bills.
Now the power is unreliable so bad that everyone is complaining my neighbors runs his Diesel gen almost 247 but my system is always on.
I have 5 AC, 3 water heater. I bake my own bread using excess solar at noon. All my cooking is done using induction. My lawn mower is electric. Water pump, pressure pump all run on solar.
The system allows me to establish a base of comfort that allows me to focus and be productive (as a remote worker) I can wake up at midnight and head to my home office to get some work done in climate controlled room.
I wrote some smart into my system that allows it to use weather information to decide when to take from grid during rainy season and when grid is down and heavy storms is predicted disable heavy non essential like pressure pump electric oven and cooker and water heater.
Over the past year the system had only had to triggered once.. all through July to now I have been completely off grid.
I am getting an EV and excess solar would now be used for charging it.
Yes my system is not for everyone not everyone can afford it, but even I started small, very very small 10 years ago with a small setup to carry basic needs. That setup grew to what I have today.
There is a protest planned for today around Lugbe Abuja to pressure govt to fix power unfortunately I am not around to participate I will continue to push for a better grid in Nigeria but I will never blink at using technology to solve my electricity problems.
