as an asian person myself, i don’t see much of an issue with shanebunnytwt’s portrayal of shane. for example, mysweetbuny makes it a point to depict shane as muscular, even within these cute, feminised portrayals. feminising male characters is nothing new in fandom spaces, so why is it suddenly an issue when it comes to shane? does being asian mean he can’t be loved or portrayed this way? the shanebunny community, to me, is simply an expression of affection for shane through cute aesthetics. there is absolutely a conversation to be had about the infantilisation and emasculation of asian men, but i don’t think shanebunnytwt is a good example of this. not every cute or feminised portrayal of an asian man is inherently emasculating, especially when the same treatment is routinely afforded to non-asian characters. in fact, the appeal of shanebunny is that he is this big, masculine, hockey player! that’s why it’s so endearing! sometimes it really is just shane as a bunny.
