before AI accusations we had artists getting hate for using references to draw

Once, after 10 years of drawing for what you call a “normal price,” I decided to price ONE highly rendered artwork at $8K. The reaction was pure hatred.
People told me to price it at €700, this being THEIR understanding of MY value. So I did. And they still didn’t buy it. None of them.
So it was never really about wanting to buy my art. It was about feeling insulted by how I chose to price myself as an artist.

They ate an artist alive for asking 4 500 USD for their artwork, calling it AI and saying they don't deserve that much.
So, let's say I priced this example at 10 000 USD. Less details than their artwork, higher price. What's next? You call it AI? You accuse me of cheating? You say I'm not worthy of that kind of money? Why would you do that?
You're not obligated to buy my art. You're not even obligated to like it. But since when does an artist asking for a price you can't afford justify this much hatred?
If I don't get the commission, what's your loss? But what if I do? What if I already have? Why BULLY someone over it?

I see more and more young artists complaining about prices other artists are charging for things.
As an older guy now who’s been a professional artists for decades let me just weigh in.
First, the market and their audience decides prices, not other artists. When you whine about other artists you sound bitter. Not a good look.
Second, if you’re constantly complaining about high art prices you’re essentially a participant in cultivating a culture that monetarily devalues art. Good luck making a living yourself with art in the future in the world you’re creating.
Third, watch out for being a crab in the bucket. Always trying to pull down the ones above you trying to move up. If you know people like this in real life you know you hate being around them.
Lastly, the internet thrives on negativity not goodness. Try and use it for good.
