New network engineer got hired right after passing his CCNA. He was excited. Spent six months studying subnetting, the OSI model, routing protocols. Memorized everything. Passed the exam. First week on the job, a switch went down. He started talking about spanning tree and VLAN configurations. IT manager asked if anyone had checked the power cable. It was unplugged. He said that wasn't covered in the CCNA. Next week, users couldn't print. He started checking IP addresses, subnet masks, and default gateways. Someone turned the printer off. He said printer maintenance wasn't his job. A router started dropping packets. He opened his notes on BGP and OSPF. I asked if he'd checked the interface counters. He said he didn't spend months studying networking to troubleshoot basic issues. I told him that's literally what troubleshooting is. Then he spent two hours designing a redundant OSPF topology for a five-person office. The IT manager asked why. He said high availability. The manager said we have one ISP, one router, and no budget for redundancy. He printed the topology, framed it, and put it on his desk. Now, whenever something breaks, he looks for a complex networking problem to solve. Meanwhile, the rest of us are checking cables, reading logs, verifying configurations, and asking users what changed. Six months later, he still has the framed topology. The office still has one router. And the printer is still turned off every other Tuesday. But at least someone in the office knows OSPF.

It's not just about passing the CCNA. You need to understand what you're learning and how to apply it in real-world situations. If you want to learn networking the right way from someone with over 15 years of industry experience, check out @mmusaktk and his upcoming CCNA class. Details below.

I think I just found the perfect opportunity for anyone working towards their CCNA. @mmusaktk is starting a 2-month live CCNA class this Saturday, October 31. Here's what you get: - Complete CCNA coverage: ITN, SRWE, and ENSA - Live weekend sessions with Packet Tracer and CML labs - Class recordings and AI-generated summaries - Bonus courses on Subnetting Mastery and Data Center Foundations - Eligible students can earn a 58% CCNA exam voucher through Cisco Networking Academy requirements. The class is normally $100, but the first 20 registrations get it for $75 with code CCNA25. If you're serious about getting your CCNA, check out the details below. Registration: LearnWithMoosa.com
