An off-patent liver disease drug could prevent #COVID19 infection, a new @Nature study has found.
@livuniHLS scientists played a key role in the collaborative study, which involved a unique mix of ‘mini-organs’, donor organs, animal studies & patients.

5 Studies, 5 Figures. All consistent, independent replications in vivo, in vitro. Omicron can't infect lungs or lung cells as well as prior variants.

With yet another in vivo study of Omicron infection today, it sure is looking that this variant has less virulence, less chance of inducing Covid pneumonia👍

Added to our immunity wall and T cell defense, this is all good.

New data from our amazing team showing Omicron produces less severe disease than Pango B and Delta SARS-CoV-2 variants in a mouse model 🐭 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Our Preprint now published. SARS-CoV-2 Omicron-B.1.1.529 Variant leads to less severe disease than Pango B and Delta variants strains in a mouse model of severe COVID-19 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… @molvirol #omicron #SARSCoV2 @_andrewowen

We @NeytsVirology show omicron #SARSco2 does not readily infect lungs of hamsters (contrast to other strains). Reasons may be 1) too well adapted to man 2) infects rather the upper respiratory tract 3) is less pathogenic or, combination of above. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
