‼️ Storage maker QNAP says customers who ran an old Plex media server open to the internet should assume their NAS has been hacked.
Attackers chain four Plex flaws, dubbed Plex2Shell, to run their own code on the server without logging in. QNAP says hijacked servers have been used to mine crypto and run proxy software.
Some QNAP users' Plex servers already appear compromised. CISA lists the flaws as actively exploited.
Plex fixed them in August with version 1.43.3.10861. Updating now won't remove what attackers installed, so QNAP says to reinstall and reset NAS and Plex passwords.

‼️ The New York Times calls Brave a burglar and an AI "fence", accusing it in a lawsuit of selling scraped journalism to AI labs including Anthropic, xAI and Perplexity.
The complaint says Brave copied 30 billion+ webpages with a crawler it never named, so sites could not block it, then sold that index to AI companies.
Brave's own blog said in 2023 that Anthropic used its search API to train Claude 2.
The Times says Brave's browser even has a "Paywall blocker", promoted as a way to "Bypass Paywalls".
It says Brave made $100M+ reselling publishers' work while publishers got nothing.

BREAKING: Investors are pushing back on Anthropic’s planned $1.5 trillion IPO valuation after today’s market rout, per the WSJ.
Three major investors planning to buy into the offering told the WSJ the valuation will likely need to come down, with one saying it could land “closer to $1 trillion.” Another raised the possibility of delaying the listing, and a smaller offering is also under consideration.
Anthropic had been aiming to raise up to $100 billion the week of Nov. 16, which would be the largest IPO ever, topping SpaceX’s $86 billion in June. Executives and advisers are expected to meet in the coming days to review the plans.
