Makes you wonder if there's a future in crypto gaming 🐝
Today, we are sharing some difficult news with our community: after much consideration, we have made the decision to sunset @YGG_Play, YGG’s publishing arm.
Our team set out to prove the Casual Degen gaming thesis, and they absolutely delivered. However, the realities of the broader macroeconomic climate mean that this unit is no longer commercially sustainable. This is a market decision, not a product decision.
As part of this sunset, we are parting ways with some incredible talent. This team built the YGG Play Launchpad, collaborated with major IPs, and shipped exceptional products under immense pressure. We are incredibly proud of the value they created for the ecosystem.
Our mission of providing opportunities through technology hasn't changed. Full details on the decision, how to get in touch with our incredible team and what’s coming next for YGG, in the article below.👇

To share some more context on how we got here: Uncharted originally began with the assumption that there was a large and growing market of crypto natives who would be happy to risk and lose money for financial entertainment.
Neither of these assumptions proved true: crypto and crypto gaming are both shrinking markets, and crypto natives are not consumers but are investors - meaning they churn if they are unprofitable, no matter how fun the experience is.
We experimented with business models where players can earn on average, funded by external sources (e.g. b2b advertising). This was part of the inspiration behind Karma partners. However, what we found was that most other crypto games aren’t in a position to pay for users, and moreover there is a fundamental disconnect between advertisers wanting to make money from players, and players wanting to make money from advertisers.
We also experimented with new audiences. Poker / fantasy sports being the two most logical extensions of crypto gaming and examples of risk-to-earn models. However, our experience was that these success cases have critical advantages we cannot replicate: poker has decades of cultural relevance and media backing, while fantasy sports have a free and infinite content calendar that drives information asymmetry. We also tried to run ads and eliminate crypto friction in the game to acquire non-crypto gamers, but failed to make this profitable.
We’ve decided it’s time to call out and shut down, and will be returning remaining funds to those who supported and backed us. Thank you once again.

Officially over a year, been enjoying
Two new festive goop from the legend @TheGoopArtist
I'm not sure if she's gonna make any new years goop, but...
Happy belated Xmas and an early happy new year!
Sorry for not much update for a while, a lot of life events happening, moving to new house, hospitalization and so on, yknow, lifey stuff 😂
Congrats to Season 4 winners, with 32.7mil BTON distributed.
Next season will be sponsored by us if we can get the new gameplay out on time.
What will change on dungeon fever;
1) no more top 10 vs consolation price, everyone who joins will earn based on their score
2) top 10 fever ranker will earn a multiplier to their score so they will earn more (this happens when we distribute the prizes)
3) top 10 overall ranker won't be getting 10% of the cut but instead they will get a bonus multiplier on their scores when they join dungeon fever and do any action that give them their scores.
so 100% of the prize poll with go to dungeon fever participants.
After this fever, I'm thinking of adjusting how the rewards is distributed.
New play: Everyone will get rewarded based on their points.
Top 10 will gain a bonus multiplier to their score, so they will earn more. Next fever will be funded by the us, to test out the system!

Man I've been out of the loop in the gaming industry for so long that I've missed this.
Right now slimes is built as a web assembly binary to be played on the web browser, but the main issue is there is plenty of "security" block that makes the game run badly, especially on iOS (e.g. multi threading limitation, gpu access limitation and so on)
I have plans to start focusing on mobile builds instead (since my commercial game dev experience are focused on mobile anyway). And I've been holding back in alot of features due to web browser limitation. But this GPG - PC is quite a game changer.
So instead of relying on crappy browser build, you can play on PC and mobile natively (without any extra work on my side to support both. Godot builds x86_64 ABI easily), and both can share the same data and state.
Plus I'm seeing a few on-chain game on appstore and playstore in recently (This is probably a fallout from Epic Store battle wins, thank you epic!)
FOCG on mobile and PC natively under google play games market reach? Hell yeah. Lets go, a good time to crave a new path anyway!
