Russia keeps bombing universities in Kyiv. I know this place, it's a campus with dorms. Academy of science was hit a few weeks ago. Education and research are under fire. Yet, we must keep teaching and learning even in such circumstances
The number of people injured in the Russian strike on a university campus and the surrounding area yesterday evening has risen to 12. Five of them are students and university staff. While emergency services were helping people and dealing with the aftermath of the first strike, the Russians used ballistic missiles again. In total, 16 ballistic missiles were launched overnight. More than 280 drones as well. Tragically, there have been casualties and hits in Kyiv, including on the South Bridge. A serious escalation in Russia’s operation against our logistics. There were also strikes on the Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Kherson, and Chernivtsi regions. Almost everywhere, Russia’s targets were the energy sector, logistics, and ordinary urban infrastructure.
The artificial and prolonged delays in the delivery of interceptor packages for Patriot and NASAMS systems, which unfortunately have occurred recently, are directly helping Russia achieve the objectives of its terrorist campaign. Every such delay means another Russian strike on one facility or another. Unfortunately, strikes are taking place every day. Russia is constantly taking new steps toward escalation. Pressure on Russia and real support for Ukraine are needed to change the situation. I thank everyone who truly supports our efforts to protect lives and understands the importance of support packages arriving on time. We must bring peace closer and save lives. Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine!

It’s interesting the extent to which an ostensible socialist like Marcetic relies on right-wing think tankers at Quincy, American Conservative, and Defense Priorities (also Koch funded) to cobble together his analysis here.
He’s not the only one, either. ⬇️

It’s still hard to believe the lever of dehumanization of our lives. When I heard the hit I just continued lying in my bed, shaking, reading updates on the number of injured, how I felt joy to the headline “no bodies were found under rubble”. What makes me happy these days 🫠.
#Kharkiv city update September 28, 2026. #Russia bombed an apartment building at 4:00 injuring 38 people in their sleep. Munition is new, to be confirmed by investigators yet.

Denys Kurvatov, Ukraine's deputy minister of Education and Science, published this call:
"I call on the international scientific community to isolate and block Russian institutions and individuals involved in and supporting this war by every legitimate means available in international scientific cooperation, academic exchanges, conferences, publications, research projects and other areas of scientific activity. Russian aggression must not be normalised in the global scientific community. European Commission, CERN etc. Today, a Russian jet-powered UAV #russiaisaterroriststate struck the building of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. People have been killed and injured. My sincere condolences to their families and loved ones. There are no words that can explain or justify this terror"

A Russian drone is still outside my window. And air-defense machine guns are working a hundred yards away.
This night Russia attacked Kyiv again.
For the first time, our university KSE, was hit.
One staff member was injured. No one in our community was killed, thank God. 1/

I’ve been reading Eyal Weizman’s book Ungrounding: The Architecture of Genocide. I of course expected it to be very good. It is. But I have been haunted by the difference between the images of total urban destruction that characterises some savage wars and the idea of

It’s so bizarre and disorienting to be living in a world where so many around you are going about their days, following the same routines that they always have, while you are entirely preoccupied with the question: is my family still alive?

The amount of gloating I see on social media about Dubai being targeted by hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones is frankly disgusting.
People, it’s not just influencers and crypto bros in Dubai. Have some respect.
It’s a huge city with a diverse population from literally all over the world, including Iran. Families with children shrieking in fear have to seek shelter at night.
Dubai is a global magnet for educated people seeking professional opportunities, stability and happiness. Opportunities that — if you happen to be a doctor from Egypt or an engineer from Uzbekistan — are not easily available to you in Europe or the U.S.
After all these barrages, Dubai has remained resilient. It’s a real place. It will get through this.
Written by leading scholars in the field, Humanitarianism from Below? forcefully illustrates that these humanitarian actors do not merely represent grassroots initiatives but have altered humanitarianism at large, involving alternative economies and politics.

The current moment is almost comical: everyone discussing our entry into nihilism without daring to mention the place where the collapse of order became final, obvious and inescapable
