Replying to @FairTaxBill
My opinion is that conservatives should vote no on 3 and demand the State comes back with a straight up, one time, right-sized raise to the homestead exemption along with a reasonable “cost of living” increases to it every year. No municipal mandates. (Your town wants to spend its money on dog parks and rainbow sidewalks? That’s totally up to your town’s voters. Your town wants to spend every dollar on the police and infrastructure, that’s also totally up to your town’s voters).
As far as the cap on non homestead property, that can and should be a done through a different piece of legislation.
Finally, the reason we’re here is because municipal elections across Florida typically see 20% turnout or less. That’s ridiculous. That means that the same candidates and same donors can win virtually every local election.
If half the people jumping into my comments to call me a dumbass actually used that energy to recruit and organize for local candidates and remained active in their local politics, then municipal spending wouldn’t be an issue.
Since calling me a dumbass is way easier than democracy, though, I won’t hold my breath.
I appreciate that the @RonDeSantis team at least attempted to address my concerns about amendment 3. That said - the comments to his post are hysterical! So thoughtful and grounded in logic 🤣. They have done more to validate my (and other conservative thinkers) concerns about Amendment 3 than any marketing effort could have ever done. And herein lies yet another valuable branding and marketing lesson.
A constitutional amendment is not the “state” telling local governments how to spend tax dollars.
It is an act of the people via their constitution to protect their property from excessive taxation by expanding the homestead exemption and prohibiting remaining property tax revenue from being used on non-essential items.
Taxpayers will have greater constitutional protection under Amendment 3!
So we are all clear: Here is the Amendment 3 ballot language:
“A "yes" vote supports this constitutional amendment to…
(raise homestead exemption and cap taxes and)
… limit counties and municipalities to spending property tax revenue on public safety, education, infrastructure, natural resource projects and flood control, local bonds, employee retirement benefits, and government operations.”
So that means a yes vote gives the state - who you cannot vote out of office - control over what things your local tax dollars can and cannot be spent. Whereas now, your local elected officials - who you can vote out of office - have that control.
This means that if Amendment 3 passes your tax dollars can only be spent on your communities biggest unions (i.e. government salaries, police/fire, and public schools) government liabilities (government bonds, government retirement funds) and the basic necessities (public works and resilience)
No hospital districts, no community redevelopment or reinvestment programs, no community parks, no libraries, no public museums, no spending on programs for the elderly, children, or people with special needs, no community pool, no water management, no animal shelters, no art in public spaces, no Christmas decorations, etc. etc.
And there will be nothing you or your vote can do about it.
This is a bad idea for all of the reasons everyone else has mentioned. And all indications are that Hal is bringing back Cashman too. mlb.com/news/aaron-boone-ret…
This is such a great self-own. The local sheriff's got $100,000 raises BECAUSE the State mandated those raises. Local municipalities had no choice. This is yet another reason why you should not let the State anywhere near local budgets. Vote No on 3.
If you're seeing a lot of pro amendment 3 posts on your timeline, you can assume that somewhere around 85% of them are bots or paid engagement. It's part of a coordinated campaign being funded largely by the Florida Association of Realtors. The agency they're using is owned by the same dude who ran the "ghost candidate" back in 2020.
If your feed is filling up with pro amendment 3 posts, that’s because the Florida Association of Realtors is spending $18,000,000 on an astroturf campaign. It’s easy to spot because all the messaging is similar and it all started just before early voting.
Funny how all of a sudden my feed is now full of pro amendment 3 posts - that all say pretty much the same thing. They clearly started paying people to post this - which tells me Amendment 3 is in trouble. That’s good because it’s a crappy- poorly thought out piece of garbage.
Anybody not happy about the Brewers sweeping the Dodgers is either a die-hard Dodgers fan or a heartless bastard.
Just a reminder that Columbus Day is a holiday in America because at one point in our history it was not uncommon for Italians and Italian Americans to be lynched. Know your history lest we are doomed to repeat it. reason.com/volokh/2026/10/12…
Just gave Art of Play a follow over on IG. Not sure what @kellyclarkson stands to gain from this (more on that later). Figured those guys could use some support.

A Statement of Conscience on October 7
I will not start by saying ‘as a Muslim’ or ‘as an imam’, but as a human being.
On October 7, over 1,200 innocent people were killed in a single day. Families were shot in their homes. Young people out dancing were hunted across open fields. Over 250 people, including children and the elderly, were dragged into Gaza as hostages. I think of a mother hiding in a safe room with her baby’s mouth covered. I think of a father listening as the line went quiet. I think of families who waited month after month for someone to come home, only to receive a coffin. I didn’t need my faith to recognize the evil of what happened. My heart told me first.
But I’m a Muslim and an imam, and I owe the world one honest sentence: what was done that day was a crime against God. God teaches that whoever kills one innocent soul, it is as if he had killed all humanity.
This day has an author: Yahya Sinwar. He planned it, ordered it, and knew what would follow. Every death of that day and war he started rests on him and Hamas leaders who sat in tunnels and foreign hotels and called slaughter a victory. It rests on every Palestinian leader who cheered, excused, handed out sweets, or said nothing. They chose this. They own it.
But Sinwar did not invent himself. He was the fruit of a tree planted almost a century ago by the Muslim Brotherhood. Hamas named itself in its founding charter as the Brotherhood’s branch in Palestine. The Brotherhood’s poison is slow. It arrives through study circles, youth camps, charity boxes, and kind words to lonely young men. Drop by drop, it teaches him that his religion is a political party, his neighbour is his enemy, the Jew is the cause of his sorrow, and God is pleased by rage. By the time the gun arrives, the soul is already taken.
I have seen this poison in mosques where sermons became rallies and young men could recite slogans but not sit still for a verse on mercy. Every people that let the Brotherhood in has paid in blood and ruined generations. It has never built anything it did not first set on fire.
Behind Hamas stands another hand: the IRGC. It was the IRGC’s money, weapons, and training that turned a hateful idea into an army. One calls itself Sunni and the other Shia, and they may curse each other’s creeds, but they are united in what they worship. It is not God. It is power. The same IRGC that armed the killers of October 7 shoots Iranian girls for showing their hair, hangs young men for asking to be free, and has left graves from Tehran to Damascus to Beirut. They speak in God’s name. So did Pharaoh speak in the name of heaven.
So let me say this clearly. Hamas and the IRGC are not merely enemies of Islam. That would be too small a charge, as if their crime were only against us. They are enemies of God. God is the Giver of life, yet they deal in death. God calls Himself the Most Merciful, yet they have made cruelty a sacrament. God honoured the children of Adam, yet they look at a child and see a target or a shield. To murder what God created and sign His name to it is the oldest blasphemy.
And we Muslims have been too quiet. Some of us were afraid. Some told ourselves it was not our business. Some, God forgive them, felt something other than horror that morning and never confessed it. Silence was the soil this poison grew in. I will not add to it.
So on this anniversary, let us say plainly what our scripture already says. The Jews are not our enemies. They are our cousins in Abraham, and their dead were created by the same God who created us. Today belongs to them: the murdered, the hostages, and families who still set a place at the table. To them I say: I am sorry for what was done to you by men who used the words of my prayers. You’re not alone in your grief or remembrance.
The enemies of God are those who murder in His name. We know their names. It is time we said them from our own pulpits, in our own voices, before they speak for us again.

The Cornell gang rape story is horrible in every possible way. One of the things that's making it more horrible is the fact that everyone involved (the girl, the boys, and the school) all have an attorney or professional crisis management team pumping out messages on their behalf. One of the key tipoffs that this is true is because there is absolutely zero personal accountability in any of it. Everyone's message is about blame casting, jockeying for the settlement, and influencing the social media crowd's narrative.

From a branding and marketing perspective, Amendment 3 is very confusing. I’m not sure why anybody who says they’re a conservative would vote for it. Here’s my take on why:
I'm a branding and marketing executive. Here's my take on the Sydney Sweeney / Novig ad campaign. I warn you, some of you are not going to be happy about this.
