It seems some parts of the world still find it very difficult to accept that a black African from Zimbabwe can write a short story in English good enough to win the Caine Prize for African Writing. Instead of celebrating the achievement, they question it. What is truly embarrassing is that they cannot even see the racist undertones in their own reaction, and they go on to put those undertones in writing for all to read. It is disgusting. “How can you beat us writing in our mother tongue.”

🔸Where is the article announcing that Simbarashe Kundizedza won the Caine Prize? Where is the article discussing his writing prowess? Why would you choose to centre spurious, defamatory, malicious allegations that aren’t even substantiated? He is a brilliant writer. This poorly-veiled campaign to take him down is regrettable. We look forward to continuing to read his work. We need new leaders.🇿🇼

Do you'll know that in Zimbabwe we study William Shakespeare. Charles Dickens. Jane Austen. Mark Twain. William Blake. William Golding. George Orwell. The Bronte sisters. The same literature texts that you study. To add icing on the cake, we also appreciate our own world recognised African giants in literature. Wole Soyinka. Chinua Achebe. Ngugi Wathiongo. Charles Mungoshi. Mariama Ba. Chimamanda Ngozie Adichi. Tsitsi Dangarembga. Yvonne Vera. Dambudzo Marechera. Too many to mention. Don't ever, in your life underestimate what we can do with words.

President Kagame is saving South Africans. She said she hated foreigners and the government was doing nothing about it! President Kagame took the foreigners to Rwanda. Formula One ran away from your xenophobia. 🤣
