D.C. today: 48% say make robotaxis legal, 37% say no. San Francisco, where they're part of daily life: 60% to 28%. The more people see them, the more they want them.
Amazing new startup Bombadil uses AI to help us talk to plants. Extra points for the LOTR reference - Tom would approve 🌱
1/ Today we’re unveiling Bombadil, @electricplantco's foundation model that reads the electrical signals of living plants and turns them into a continuous view of their physiology.
Trained on 7M+ hours of plant electrical signal across 125+ species. That makes Bombadil the most species-diverse model of directly recorded electrical biosignals in existence. The animal equivalent would be one model that reads the brainwaves of blue whales, horseshoe crabs and fruit flies.
$25B…from a single state 😂🤦♂️
This should be DEFCON 1 for every innovator in America.
We need one single national privacy law, not 50 state AGs competing to see who can impose the biggest fines.
With one landmark courtroom victory this week against Meta, New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez is poised to bring in almost double the state’s annual revenue. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Just when you thought CES couldn’t get better 🙌
Las Vegas, your travel just got easier. ✈️ 🎰 Waymo is now at @LASairport!
Starting today, Waymo riders in Las Vegas have airport access, and we’ll welcome more riders in the coming weeks.
🤔 Why wouldn’t we want consumers using AI agents to make smarter financial decisions and get better returns on their own money? And who exactly benefits from stopping them?

.@dr_inserra and I have a new paper out today. In it we look at youth online safety policy such as age verfication about the 6 clear potential harms/costs that should be weighed against any purported benefits. You can read the full paper here: cato.org/briefing-paper/onli…

Who's actually trying to ban AVs in DC, and why?
The "People First Transportation Alliance" claims to represent the interests of the people - but can't even name who works there.
They did name 13 "founding members" – four of them falsely. Yikes.
An anti-robotaxi group called the People First Transportation Alliance has become active in DC in recent months.
But exactly who is behind the group remains unclear.

Robotaxis are an amazing innovation in transportation and technology
The people lining up to oppose them are definitely on the wrong side of history
But if they're just stooges and made-up unions, that makes sense too
Enough with this. Let consumers ride!
Good WaPo reporting on shady doings.

The Biden Administration waged war on tech based on the theory that it was going to win back working class votes. Not only was that dead wrong (we lost working class share), but it shrunk the Democratic tent and turned off Silicon Valley Democrats.
NEW: The big tech midterm realignment could have huge implications in 2028. Trump has made his party the defenders of Silicon Valley execs. Democrats see a populist windfall. The proof is in the ad spending data. theatlantic.com/politics/202…

Adam's research validates a lot of what I've seen firsthand. Both good and bad faith opposition to AVs benefit from the public's unfamiliarity with the technology. But once AVs are actually on the streets, much of that skepticism quickly disappears.

I just find this amusing. People can oppose autonomous vehicles. I disagree with them. But if you’re going t to oppose AVs and actively work to influence legislation on it, maybe make sure your astroturf group is making accurate claims. Great reporting by @washingtonpost
Trying to block a technology that could save thousands of lives is immoral. Full stop.

Candidates can *say* that certain issues matter, but their ad campaigns are an x-ray for which issues they're really betting on.
Tech/AI issue ranked tenth as a midterm ad topic -- though sixth among Dems.
Safer streets, more accessible transportation and support for workers should all be part of New York’s conversation about autonomous vehicles.
@TechNYC President & CEO @juliepsamuels spoke with @CrainsNewYork about those priorities and her work with @ABetterRoadFwd, a statewide coalition building support for autonomous vehicles and showing New Yorkers what the technology could offer their communities. crainsnewyork.com/politics-p…
