AI will change work. The political question is who gains, who carries the risk and who remains accountable.

AI is built by business, not by government. The Government should cut burdens on British firms, fix grid connection delays, and categorically reject EU protectionism.
1/7 I have two simple tests for British AI, driven by our values. Is it safe? And is it ours to shape? 🇬🇧 Today, Chancellor @JohnHealey_MP is announcing a major, ambitious package of investment to strengthen Britain's defences against emerging threats, back British innovation, and build our technological independence.

Hi @British_Airways Online check-in open, but technical difficulties when attempting to login (as I've been thrown out of the app). Looks like this is a wide scale problem. What's being done to fix it?

Britain becoming an AI customer rather than a creator would be a strategic failure. Sovereignty does not mean building everything here. It means retaining enough compute, skills, testing capacity and procurement leverage to make choices rather than accept terms set elsewhere. We’ve spent centuries imagining our creations turning against us. Too much AI coverage now treats that plot as inevitable. I’m optimistic about AI. But its benefits require human responsibility, ethical choices and enforceable safeguards. Fatalism lets decision-makers off the hook.
Just watched the @netflix Instadocs about the @OpenAI cyberattack on @huggingface. Super disappointing, as they went for maximum anthropomorphism of the technology and full doomer mode. I spent more than two hours with them trying to correct all their mistakes and ground this in reality, explaining that agents are technological systems, not aliens. But it looks like the drive to scare people for maximum views was too strong. Also, they didn’t mention the lack of containment and monitoring of the agents, how closed-model safeguards blocked our defensive work, or how we defended ourselves with AI using an open model. And that we still lack a lot of information and transparency, including full agent traces and that companies need to remain accountable for what their agents do. It ends up being a fun sci-fi movie though!

Daisy Cooper says the Lib Dems can outstrip Labour as pro-business. Her proof is an 18-month package funded by taxing banks, clawing back energy support, and spending inflation receipts. The Times’ verdict on her “major intervention”: a disappointment, easy to ignore and proof her party has no viable alternative to Ed Davey. St Albans deserves an MP with the weight to shape debate, not one whose interventions confirm the Lib Dem leadership vacuum. thetimes.com/article/9d2770f…

Anthropic’s junior technical hires fell from 27% to 9% as AI-agent use surged. That is not proof of an economy-wide jobs collapse. It is a warning: firms that automate the training ground for senior talent must build a replacement route in, or eventually run out of expertise.

Over 500 Conservative councillors have signed our open letter calling on Green councillors to stand up for British Jewish residents. The Green Party has declared “Zionism to be racism”. Zack Polanski didn’t stay to vote against it. And yesterday, he told Laura Kuenssberg he wouldn’t overturn it: “I don’t think this is actually controversial.” We’re asking Green councillors to disavow the motion, challenge antisemitism and reassure Jewish residents they’ll be represented without prejudice. Silence is a choice.

Getting a flight today. Just trying to remind myself of the rules of engagement.

As a Zionist, I will not defend lawlessness. Ten arrests after attacks on a journalist and diplomats are a necessary start. A democratic Israel must enforce the law equally, including when Palestinians are the victims. @Reuters reports on the arrests and the Israeli police commissioner’s commitment to equal enforcement: reuters.com/business/media-t…

A partial year cannot prove a decline. Official like-for-like data show Level 6 apprenticeship starts up 4.9%. Employer cost pressures deserve scrutiny, but comparing nine months with a full year obscures the trend. Skills policy needs an accurate diagnosis. Official data compare August to April with the same period and record Level 6 starts up 4.9% to 25,140. FT report: ft.com/content/85545be4-6f36… Official data: explore-education-statistics…

Anthropic’s proposal to put 5% of its equity behind public benefit is substantial. Company-directed philanthropy cannot substitute for democratic accountability. If AI disrupts work, firms should help fund transition while governments set the rules and workers retain rights.
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit. It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion. In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding. In the post below, we share more details about our new fund. anthropic.com/news/public-be…

Zionism is not extremism. As a Jewish Zionist, I find this chilling. Supporting Israel, visiting it and opposing antisemitism are not grounds for counter-terrorism scrutiny. If this account is accurate, Durham Constabulary must explain why officers were sent to her door. The police record reportedly acknowledged that supporting Israel or travelling there is not a counter-terrorism concern. Prevent exists to stop people becoming terrorists, not to police lawful solidarity. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

Great to be out with @HertsmereTories to kick off their local election campaign, delivering thousands of leaflets across Elstree. Out with @MorrisBrightMBE and @harvcohen and team. Brilliant to be out in support of our neighbouring association.

MI5’s confirmation of more than 50 Iran-linked arrests, much of it aimed at Jewish communities, is welcome but late. The threat is state-directed through proxies. Protection cannot stop at statements of solidarity; resources and prosecutions must match the pattern McCallum described.
MI5 is finally saying out loud what many of us have been warning about for years. Sir Ken McCallum: more than 50 arrests in Iran-linked operations in the UK over the past year. Much of that aggression aimed squarely at British Jewish communities. A spring wave of arson and sabotage against Jewish sites here and across Europe. Iran subcontracting its violence through criminal proxies—and now shifting toward harder targets as well. And on top of that: a 19-year-old Norwegian footballer was just jailed for 20 years after agreeing to carry out a hit for the Foxtrot network—an Iran-backed Swedish gang sanctioned by the UK and US precisely because it orchestrates violence against Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe. He flew in with guns and ammunition. The intended victim remains unknown. This is not distant foreign policy but is the Islamic Republic targeting Jews on British soil. The warning signs were everywhere after October 7—the marches, the chants, the normalization, the weak official responses that treated Jew-hatred as just another opinion. Many of us said the consequences would not stay on campuses or in the streets. They haven’t. No more pretending this is someone else’s problem. The threat is real, it is state-directed through proxies, and it is aimed at Jews. @andyburnham: Protect British Jews.

An AI agent can know the right answer and still be the wrong system to trust with the action. As agents gain authority, companies need people who can design the system around the model. This week: why the agent needs an architect. owntheconversation.substack.…

London Colney and Colney Heath residents face five overlapping planning processes at once, including 5,000 homes at Bowmans Cross. That volume is not consultation; it is overload. Parish councils are right to force a single meeting so people can actually understand what is being proposed.

London lists six times as many AI vacancies as Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Liverpool combined. That concentration will hold back growth elsewhere. Employers outside the capital must be able to train and retain people, or AI productivity stays locked in one city.
