Treat others as you would like to be treated. Sounds easy right? It's not. Takes intention to be present.
How many times have you heard someone say, “I was taught to treat the custodian with the same respect as the CEO ”?
We repeat it as though it demonstrates some extraordinary human quality or exceptional leadership. But seriously, isn’t that simply basic human decency? Treating people with dignity regardless of their job title should be the bare minimum. Is that really the bar we have set?
The message of Coffee with the Custodian goes much deeper.
Every person in an organization brings talents, experience, knowledge, and insight. The custodian doesn’t simply deserve to be treated respectfully. They deserve to be heard, valued, and recognized for what they uniquely contribute.
If you think speaking to the custodian is an act of humility, you’ve missed the lesson. Listening to them is an act of intelligence.

Trustworthy God, you are at work for our good in this life and the next. When things go differently than we plan, help us remember that you are in control, so we do not have to grasp at the impossible. Teach us to place our treasure in you, for now and for eternity. Amen.
