Here's my review of @mrwriterman79's simply brilliant book: "Killing Maradona". As someone who became obsessed with Maradona during Mexico 86, I have read a number of books on the flawed genius, but this is the absolute best. football-nerd.org/2026/10/26…
This is wonderful, thank you Gareth. It’s so great to hear from fans of Diego & those who have read extensively on him that my book stands out. I wanted it to be something those with zero knowledge could read but also super fans might love. Thrilled you liked the “drama” scenes!

Trying not to get mad. It’s just a nonsense award, the Eurovision of football, but still… the idea that 23 players were better than Luis Díaz last season is ridiculous. Vinicius Jr? Ferran Torres? He absoluted bossed PSG but was placed behind half their squad. What a crock.

Was easily the best left winger in the world last season, what a shame he isn’t appreciated enough
Lucho had 7g + 4a in 12 champions league games (incl 2 goals in an incredible first half vs PSG away in Paris) to avg a goal or assist every 89 mins.
He averaged a goal or assist every 76.5mins for Bayern in the league with 32 g/a in 32 games.
24th is some major shade.

Columbia might not have done what they hoped this summer at the #WorldCup but @mrwriterman79 says the future is something to get excited about.

This kid has an insane ceiling. Only 18 and playing like this at a new club in a new country. Excited to see him return to parent club Brighton & Hove Albion in the future. Have they unearthed their next big young diamond to follow Caicedo, Baleba etc?

OTD 1997: Diego Maradona played his last ever professional game.
Not any game, a superclásico at El Monumental!
Maradona came off at HT, replaced by a 19-year old Juan Román Riquelme. Boca beat River 2-1. Diego announced his retirement five days later on his 37th birthday.
Assuming Man Utd lose (currently 2-0 down), they are only a Sunderland home win (vs Leeds at 16:30) away from being just a single point off the bottom of the Premier League. Incredible.
