“Develop interest in life as you see it; in people, things, literature, music—the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself.” — HENRY MILLER

“You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting – over and over announcing your place in the family of things.” ― Mary Oliver

Vonnegut on practicing art, “The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”

“In the end, I believe there is nothing we must do to be loved. We spend our lives trying to look more beautiful, more intelligent. But I've understood two things: Those who love us see us with their hearts and give us qualities beyond the ones we truly have. And those who refuse to love us will never be satisfied with all our efforts. Yes, truly. I believe it is important to let our imperfections be. They are precious, for they help us understand those who see us with the heart.” — Frida Kahlo

Being close to someone who deals with anorexia, this is the most critical thing I’ve learned and had NO idea about. How often this disease is so competitive and arrogant. Intervention/recovery are totally unwelcome, but concern/worry are not. The need to out perform others w/ ED
The tricky thing about anorexia is that if you have it, you’re proud of it & want to be the best at it & you will interpret other people’s concern as disingenuous meddling born of envy, which will only induce you to double down on your own “choices” because it’s all about control

Great job firefighters!* We are all glad to hear LAFD and partner engine companies will have the Boyle Heights cold storage fire out by midnight! *HOWEVER, let's hope this is the end of the fire and the beginning of the cleanup by the owners and not the BUBONIC PLAGUE! Hope FDA, USDA can see this! 🐁🐁🐁🐁🐁🐁(Video of rats nest taken by me yesterday at Caldera and Union Pacific Ave.)

Where will the run off from the toxins end up? This is a systemic issue. It’s not just about smell, LA.
WATCH: The Boyle Heights warehouse fire is entering a new phase. As smoke clears, concerns are growing over 85 million pounds of food spoiling inside the burned facility. Neighbors report a foul smell, flies, and fears of rats, while officials monitor runoff from firefighting efforts.
