Seventh place for Ralph in the final, a disappointing end to an otherwise great day for him. Megan in action now...

Creation of complex rules (with # of people, households, exceptions) varying by tiers has created a perverse system where people look for loopholes. Instead, focus on why this virus is risky, what we can all do to avoid getting it & passing it on & the underlying science.

This week's ONS weekly death report shows there were 450 fewer deaths than the previous week and 560 below the five year average. I've been digging into the data to see what we can tell about the low weekly death rates this week. [Thread] #covid19 #worktweet
Latest ONS deaths data (to w/e 10 July) has been released. 560 fewer deaths than normal were recorded in-week. Year to date there have been 18% more deaths than 5-year average.

(5/6) The last few weeks have also seen lower death counts than the previous five years. The point about the missing deaths being at the oldest ages hasn't been consistently seen through this period.

(6/6) Finally, while it is good news that death rates are now lower than normal levels we have to put it into context: excess deaths since mid-March are much higher than the dip in recent weeks. Many loved ones have been lost too soon. #staysafe
