NEWS: The big three US carriers are pressing the FCC on satellite-to-phone rules. AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, through their trade group CTIA, met with FCC leaders on October 20 to shape how direct-to-device satellite service gets regulated. Their main asks: • Keep the key 5G bands (2.5 GHz and 3.45 GHz) out of the satellite framework, arguing satellite service is not feasible there • Protect the exclusive rights of terrestrial license holders • Keep the consent-based system, so satellite operators still need to partner with carriers to use their spectrum • Hold off on a proposed signal-strength limit until it is studied further The filing lands as SpaceX pushes to expand Starlink Direct to Cell and lock up more spectrum, including its recent 800 MHz deal. The bottom line: the carriers want satellite-to-phone service to keep running through their networks. Source: CTIA ex parte filing, FCC (October 22, 2026)

NEWS: What Anthropic's $450 billion compute bet means for SpaceX Anthropic plans to spend enormous sums on computing power in the years ahead. SpaceX is positioned to take a cut. In a draft of its IPO filing, the AI company said it could spend as much as $750 billion on computing capacity over time. It has already committed to about $450 billion in cloud deals over the next seven to 10 years. Most of those contracts cannot be cancelled. SpaceX matters here because it is already one of Anthropic's suppliers. Last year Anthropic agreed to pay SpaceX up to $84.5 billion for computing capacity through 2029. The catch is that most of that money is cancellable on 90 days' notice, so for now it reads more like reserved capacity than guaranteed income. The new filing changes the picture. Anthropic is signing far larger deals that are locked in for years. That raises the stakes for every supplier it uses, SpaceX included. What it could mean for SpaceX: - A much bigger customer. Anthropic's compute budget is heading into the hundreds of billions, so even a steady share grows fast in absolute terms. - Firmer, longer revenue. If SpaceX moves part of its cancellable capacity into Anthropic's locked contracts, soft bookings turn into predictable income. That is the kind investors pay up for. - A vote of confidence. A leading AI lab spending at this scale backs SpaceX's own push into large data centers and selling compute. Source: Anthropic draft S-1 (via WSJ)

FYI: Tesla has explained how the Roadster's thruster system works. SpaceX has used thrusters to position spacecraft for decades. Making them work inside a moving car took all-new hardware and controls. How it works: - Every usable void in the car is packed with Carbon Fiber Overwrapped Pressure Vessels, or COPVs - More compressed gas on board means more thruster run time - The thruster system makes 4 to 5 times the force the tires alone can - More force on the same mass means far quicker acceleration Tesla's point: every car today is capped by tire grip, and the Roadster engineers around it. BREAKING: Tesla has unveiled its next-gen Roadster. Elon Musk showed the car live on stage. What's confirmed: - A two-seater with steer-by-wire - Rear thrusters and fans, fed by a rechargeable air tank, so no special propellant - A rear wing that adjusts automatically - A demo 0-60 run clocked at ~0.81 seconds, with Musk saying Tesla can go faster - A top speed Musk says is well above 235 mph Production is targeted for 2028.
