We Need to Talk About Vulvas 🗣️ We’re launching a new project today that we hope might actually change your life a little bit. Have you ever felt ashamed by your vulva because it isn’t like the ones you’ve seen in pornography or textbooks? Well, you’re not alone. /1
Lydia Reeves was so worried about the shape of her vulva in her teens, she pleaded with her mum for surgery. She later realised that hers was normal and now creates plaster casts of vulvas to show the variations. @DrNaomiSutton | lydiareeves.com | #stephspackedlunch
If you've just watched @StephLunch @PackedLunchC4 and want to know more about vulvas and why we started this campaign, head to our digital hub: calla.ly/gb/vulva-talk PS, sign our pledge to call a vulva a vulva ❤️

darling @instagram @InstagramComms, your policy on illustrations of the wide diversity of vulvas is creating shame and confusion, and erasing people's experiences. get better.

how can we dismantle the social taboos and shame around vulvas if we can’t use social media to inform, support and educate?
Callaly retweeted
how can we educate them if you’re not only erasing these pictures and comments from people who, for the first time, feel seen and represented, but further feeding into this idea that vulvas are something that we should be ashamed of and should be kept hidden?

the images @mycallaly worked to create were made to help those who feel confusion, dissociation or negative feelings about their vulvas.

openly speaking about vulvas and the wide variety of what's normal MATTERS. one in five 16-24 year olds have considered cutting or bleaching their own vulva.

these images were part of a crucial campaign by @mycallaly to help people feel less alone, and understand their own anatomy better.

Replying to @vagina_museum @instagram
yesterday, in partnership with @mycallaly, a series of realistic vulva illustrations went up on our page. within a few hours (and after thousands of likes and hundreds of comments), it was taken down because of "nudity"

dearest @instagram, we love you, but we really, really need to talk about your censorship policy. this is the third time in two weeks we've had to have this conversation...
Hey @instagram, we need to talk about vulvas! Yesterday
@vagina_museum posted a series of our realistic vulva illustrations as part of a partnership to bust some taboos. #StopCensoringVulvas /1
More dangerously, you’re adding to the idea that vulvas are something we should be ashamed of, to the extent that we can’t even show illustrations of a completely natural body part. How can we dismantle social taboos if we can’t use social media to inform, support & educate? /7
By removing this content, you’re stopping all three of these positive actions from taking place on your platform, allowing shame and confusion to continue, and actively erasing people’s experiences. It’s time to do better. #StopCensoringVulvas @vagina_museum
