Really proud of what we managed to capture and put together at Threat Hunting Labs around PHP2Shell in just a day of non-stop work. I'm tired but wanted to share this quickly with the community. We took real exploitation activity and turned it into something the whole community can benefit from. Raw logs, hunting queries, Sigma and Suricata rules, a PCAP, and a full investigation with our own analysis. We normally reserve the detailed researcher analysis for subscribers, but we've made everything free for this one. No gatekeeping here, this is free for everyone. Hope you find it useful! threathuntinglabs.com/leads/…
Yesterday, we promised free PHP2Shell hunting material. Today, we’ve created a Hunt Lead covering successful exploitation against a Linux system. Researcher analysis is normally subscriber-only. For this Hunt Lead, we’ve made the full analysis free to benefit the whole community. Here’s what you’ll get: • 14,838 normalized records covering EDR, auditd, Sysmon for Linux, authentication and system logs, plus Zeek HTTP, connection and file-analysis records. • 5 endpoint alerts and 145 Suricata records, with network rule matches distinguished from stream warnings. • 10 KQL hunting queries, 3 Sigma rules and 3 Suricata rules to review and adapt for your environment. • 5 investigation questions connecting the network activity with evidence from the host. • A downloadable PCAP and investigation guide so you can examine the exploitation traffic in Wireshark alongside the host evidence. The Hunt Lead also covers the vulnerabilities, affected versions and mitigation steps, with the information dated 22 October 2026. Linux is the first release. We haven’t seen a working Windows PoC or successful PHP2Shell exploitation against our Windows environments. So far, the Windows activity we’ve observed has been fingerprinting and reconnaissance. We’ll add verified Windows evidence to the same Hunt Lead when it becomes available. Investigate the lead, read the brief, inspect the findings, grab the Hunt pack and explore the detailed researcher analysis. Then use the queries and rules to start hunting in your own environment. All of it is free for everyone. threathuntinglabs.com/leads/…

Something that gets lost in all these conversations is that there were years when a major 0day would drop and technical details were almost impossible to come by. Multiple people here would stay up for days reverse engineering the issue and stitching together a working PoC, not just to prove exploitation was possible, but to help defenders understand the actual risk, develop IoCs, build detections, and clean up compromised environments.

A moron has released a POC early for php2shell so here is what you need to do: If you’re on version prior to 8.2: Edit php.ini: session.upload_progress.enabled = Off Then reload php-fpm and restart apache If you’re on later version: Update (it’ll be available in a few hours) In any case, the mitigation for the php.ini should work either way. Not sure if it’ll cover both vulns though so keep an eye on that. I’ll be reporting on follow up activity on windows as a target. Good luck!

I had two of the founding fathers of detection engineering on Detection Dispatch to talk about what they've been farming with the community. 🌱 LOLDrivers. LOLRMM. LOLSkills. Catalogs that track legitimate tools and components that attackers abuse, giving us a shared place to build knowledge, hunt, and detection engineer the ways of prevention.....but the conversation went somewhere I didn't expect. I've spent so much of my career thinking about detection that this episode genuinely had me rewiring my brain around app control/prevention....Prevention isn't a replacement for detection. We need both, and I think we need to talk a lot more about how they work together. That's the episode, you don't want to miss. Thank you @M_haggis & @_josehelps for the laughs 🦉 🦉 🦉 🦉 Full episode dropping this weekend, subscribe to my Youtube channel to be notified 🔔

After we've learned that no one actually did any cybersecurity, and they think vulnerabilities are the end game. We now learn, that nobody actually know what constitute professional software. People saw a couple of UI/UX clones and they think, its ready for mainstream. I got one word for yall -> Support

I'll be on PTO for 3 weeks. I request everyone to slow down in their research and attacks. We have to meaningfully cross this new AI era and align our vision for meaningful and safe future.

This is exactly how we talked about malware when we were kids after watching the Matrix for the first time.
Jacob Coxon's next interview on CBS News (ex Anthropic+Open AI researcher who resigned) "We can't just unplug it because it could be copying itself over to other computers. Like it's not that difficult to find yourself because an AI is just code. It could transfer itself over the internet to a different place and then you unplug it here, but it's actually still over there and maybe it makes 10,000 copies of itself and they're all cooperating." ---- From "CBS News" YouTube channel, (full video link in comment)

Machine-speed attacks.... Agentic SOCs.... Autonomous everything.... Meanwhile, somewhere, an EDR is asking nicely for its process not to be killed. Also checks logs...4688 still not enabled 🙂‍↔️
