Engineers and stuntmen test the splitting car from Malcolm (1986)'. Loving the 1980s OH&S. Imagine the permits and fees you'd need to test this on a main street these days :-) youtu.be/5Y8ZWzO9yhk?si=bATO…

I’m watching some Telecom Mobilenet adverts nostalgically…and stumbled across this one. Imagine a company like Tel$tra advertising that analogue might still be a decent choice for some folks and not demanding a digital cutover these days. Wow. youtu.be/kkQpVGwu0RU?si=uunc…

While I did really appreciate the words before the Artemis II crew orbits into LoS on the far side of the moon, imagine the fun they could have had with the LoS moment by intentionally truncating some speech. “Oh it’s beautiful…it’s clear that the meaning of life is…”

Hi @DrJillWillis, not sure if you are still here on X/Twitter. You just popped to mind when I was listening to this and I thought it could be interesting for your leadership students. ‘Inside the life of a four-star general’. Lots of leadership insight. youtu.be/tQI1Wn9YSCY?si=j02P…

It seems like except for a few replies here and there that I haven’t posted X/twitter for about a year! I am wondering if this is part of a cause or part of an effect of a bit of social isolation feeling, missing former ‘tribes’ (for want of a better word). Algorithms to blame?

We're rolling out new features and improvements that developers have been asking for: 1. Our new model GPT-4 Turbo supports 128K context and has fresher knowledge than GPT-4. Its input and output tokens are respectively 3× and 2× less expensive than GPT-4. It’s available now to all developers in preview. 2. Assistants API and new tools (Retrieval, Code Interpreter) will help developers build world-class AI assistants within their own apps. 3. The platform is becoming multimodal. GPT-4 Turbo with Vision, DALL·E 3, and text-to-speech are all now available to developers. Oh… and we’re doubling GPT-4 rate limits. openai.com/blog/new-models-a…

Hundreds of millions of men have flirted with communism and cheated on their wife. Only 1 was the father of the atom bomb. What's the more interesting story? This is not a critique of communism, it's a critique on story focus.

Pale Blue Dot is a photo of Earth that was taken by the Voyager 1 space probe in 1990 from a distance of about 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles) as it was leaving our solar system. This is what Carl Sagan said about the photo: "Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor, and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there — on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”

Big tobacco needed to know they would be able to get the Marlboro Man to Mars safely; in the tradition of the many other spacefaring dogs through history such as Laika, Butch and Rex were sent to Mars to perform vital research… 🚀 #AIart

Thought provoking sound bite: Microsoft Chief Economist suggests pause on AI regulation. It’s not specifically about the Edu context but is food for thought on implications for Edu policy IMO youtu.be/hWPva2BK4ds via @dralandthompson

Not sure about the sample size here…assuming there are ~794000 children & young people who attend Catholic schools in Australia…and the results quoted had 1200 respondents. That’s only ~0.075% of how many parents there *may* have been for that cohort.🤔 thewest.com.au/news/educatio…

Im not a maths teacher, but the 64% of respondents quoted in the article who “…believed the main contributor was the number of students with diverse learning needs” would be 0.048% of the possibly ~1.6 million parents of students in Catholic schools? 💯% of me not convinced 😂
