Parliament is back in session tomorrow and we're bringing the voice of the people to the halls of power.
At our caucus meeting earlier this month, we met with community organizers to hear about the work they're doing on the front lines of one of Canada's most expensive cities — from unions to food banks and housing organizers and many more.
While workers struggle to make ends meet, the Liberals have made it clear they're going to use this fall's session to attack the right to strike, push through privatization and more.
At this critical moment for our country, Avi Lewis and your NDP MPs are keeping up the fight for bold solutions to make life better for the many, not the money.
The Liberals have shown their true colours.
They had their chance to stand with workers and protect the right to strike.
Instead, they stood with the corporations that want to exploit and squeeze them for all they’re worth.
The Liberals have chosen whose side they're on — and it isn't yours.

Avi Lewis on Stelco: "The CEO has admitted on CBC that he bought this company in order to take out the competition for his U.S. steel mills. And now he's violating the law by by laying off hundreds of workers potentially right before Christmas. This is obscene."

NEW: Today, the Liberals voted down MP @LeahGazan's bill to end government strikebreaking and protect the constitutional right to strike.
The NDP stands with workers; they chose to stand with the billionaires and corporate interests that are fuelling the crises that working people face every day.
But the fight isn’t over. The Liberals and Conservatives are teaming up to expand this undemocratic power and make life harder for workers with Bill C-39. The NDP and workers coast to coast to coast will be fighting back every step of the way.

New Democrats have repeatedly raised concerns about the UAE’s human rights record with the Liberals – including the UAE’s role in the genocide in Sudan.
Canada should not sign a trade deal with a country fueling genocide and weapons should not be shipped while this continues.

The Liberal government intervened to end legal strikes 10 times over the last three years. They did this by inappropriately using Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code. In several cases, they did only hours after job action began.
You don't make Canada strong by attacking the workers who keep it running. But the Liberals have gone after workers on strike again and again. Now, they're entrenching these attacks into law.
Today, Parliament is voting on MP @LeahGazan’s bill to scrap Section 107 and end government interference in strikes. The NDP will always stand with workers. The other parties will have their chance to show whose side they're on.
Email your MP now and tell them to vote YES to Bill C-247.

Again and again the Liberal government has attacked workers’ Charter-protected collective bargaining rights and their right to strike. The Liberals have undermined legal strikes 10 times in just three years using Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code. Now, they’re trying to extend this authoritarian power in Bill C-39.
The @NDP has joined workers saying that enough is enough. My Bill C-247 to uphold the right to strike will be voted on this afternoon, when workers across Canada will find out if the Liberals will respect their right to bargain for a fair deal, or will keep taking orders from billionaires and corporate executives.

“Leaders from Treaty No. 6, No. 7, No. 8 and the Blackfoot Confederacy — along with NDP MP Leah Gazan — were also among those who added their voices to previous calls from chiefs in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec for the Carney government to withdraw the controversial Bill C-39. That legislation has sparked objections from environmentalists, unions and Indigenous groups as it seeks to hasten federal assessments of development projects like pipelines, electricity grids, mines and more.”

The American CEO who bought Stelco is openly admitting that he purchased the company to sabotage it.
This is why the Liberals should have never approved Stelco's sale in the first place. When you give away ownership of a critical industry like steel, your economy is forever under another's thumb.
There is only one solution that will save these jobs and put Canada back in the driver's seat: we need to nationalize Stelco.
In conversation with @avilewis at the Broadbent Institute, world-renowned economist @IsabellaMWeber reminded us that if politicians are doing their jobs correctly, they’re supposed to make some enemies.
If the very survival of people is in direct conflict with record profits for corporations, you deserve to know whose side the party you're voting for is on.
