I actually can’t believe how many people are acting like they’ve never been told climate change threatens to cause dangerous impacts on our lives. #stockpiling I mean David Attenborough warned here that the collapse of civilisation is on the horizon. Not sure how he could have been much clearer.

Stop being dicks and start being revolutionaries On the fascism of violence. So here we go again. We see the pictures of violence in France: men who think another shot of political heroin will get them the revolution. It will not. Having been at this game for 4 decades - I know absolutely the revolutionary class is not young men under 30 - it is women over 50. I am absolutely not saying this to get political brownie points. Everyone who does this business knows this. In the last century it was the women who stuffed the envelopes, did the clearing up, provided the emotional labour - all the stuff that actually makes civil resistance work that never gets onto the front pages. Because it is not sexy. But sexy does not get you the relationship, it just gets you sex. And sex is not the revolution. Relationship is the revolution. Relationships mean assemblies - people - meaning the actual real life people - shop workers, nurses, secretaries, bus drivers - sitting down together and deciding together. Not the government, not the elites, not the rich. And not young men being dicks. And for you rational types - listen up - only 25 per cent of violent revolutions win and of those only 1 in 20 produce a pro social democracy after the 5 years. The other 19 result in social breakdown, civil war, dictatorship or all three. And that means a pile of shit going on - body parts in the streets and people screaming in grief over the people those body parts used to belong to. So read the numbers and don’t play dumb. You put carbon in the air, you warm the climate; you go out and be a violent dick, you get fascism. What makes revolutions is not elitist violence, it's mass participation - 3.5% of the population if you want to know. Violence destroys participation. The point is not that violent revolution is not revolutionary, it is that it is not revolutionary enough. Not even on the foothills of being enough. The real thing as we all get to realise sooner or later, is love - to attend, listen, support, provide. The revolution is love or it is nothing. Without love we all die. We are on humankind's last lap. We have to make our final call. We have to choose as some cool guy said between nonviolence and non existence. And for those men reading this, this message has to come from us. We need to call out this shit, not pretend this is a woman thing. This is what real leadership looks like. To tell the truth because it is the truth - and not give a fuck. Violence is fucked and it has to stop. See you on the streets - AND in the assemblies. I am speaking tonight at 7pm BST with climatologist Ruth Cerezo-Mota. Join us. actionnetwork.org/events/oct…

Sadly in 2026 the basic truth is that @andyburnham cannot honestly say today’s children have safe long term futures. That’s a fact. He isn’t addressing it, talking about it, won’t level with the public about how bad the climate crisis really is and nor will almost any politicians. Neither are the media. @bphillipsonMP @YvetteCooperMP @ShabanaMahmood @JohnHealey_MP
On going ahead with Jackdaw: "@ZackPolanski.. says this is a betrayal of all of our futures.. do you really think this is the right thing to do?" @Miatsf: "Well look I do.. we have seen that climate change is here.. heat waves, wild fires, drought.. its a pragmatic decision"

Continuing its voyage into uncharted waters, the latest preliminary Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly is now at a record 3.08°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. Models expect the Nino 3.4 anomaly to continue rising into at least mid-November. Then there will be dragons.

One more totally fucking nuts graph for today, care of a request by @LeonSimons8. Not only is the current standard deviation for the Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature above 4SD over the 1982-2011 mean for the first time on record, but no previous year even reached 3SD.

Bugs me that so many people are rightly reacting to the AI threat but have ignored this for decades.

Err check out the near vertical line, guys… This situation deserves as much attention as the AI threat does if not more as this one is definitely happening….
With the usual caution that sea-surface temperatures are preliminary for 2 weeks, I give you the global SST for September 8th and a bigger y-axis:

They were right. People will slag them off, but what have they done? The entire public, politicians, Media, everyone’s just sat back and done nothing and just let this happen.

I’m a bit pissed off, actually a lot thinking about it. Here we are heading for the end of life on earth in 80 ish years, all because of emissions, but I can still fly anywhere I want at the drop of a hat in a private jet. Fucking ridiculous is the only adequate description!

Journalists and broadcasters have opinions on almost everything apart from this. Almost all of them completely ignore it. There’s something very wrong with the profession.

The MOST IMPORTANT ARTICLE of the year on "climate" "This massive lie can best be summed up as 'when it comes to climate change... we have more time.'" And this is why revolution is the only option we have - it is not a matter of politics, it's a matter of physics. Because we are out of time. currentaffairs.org/news/the-…

Reminder: scientists say next year is going to be significantly hotter than this year. The media still refuse to treat the climate crisis like the global emergency scientists say it is. The media are the problem.

The Greenland ice cap is losing around 30 MILLION tonnes of ice an hour due to the climate crisis - 20% MORE than what scientists originally thought. No time to waste. Stopfossifuels. #ActOnClimate #climate #energy #renewables #go100re

This is very scary. A functioning society would see everyone knowing and talking about this. But the media is made up of the most vacant bunch of people you could meet.
The rise in Niño 3.4 region sea surface temperatures over the past few weeks has been nothing short of astonishing. We are now hotter than any days during the 1997/1998 super El Niño event, and we are still many months from the peak.

Here it is, the climate future we've been warning about. The start of it, that is. Humanity has one job now, the one we've neglected. Ramping down fossil fuels as fast as possible. Lot's of components to it, but money out of politics is a good start.

Do you think this summer has woken up a lot of people to the climate crisis? I get the feeling it has to an extent - but also that people feel they can pick and choose what they believe - like they see it’s getting warmer and that’s bad, but don’t understand how catastrophically bad it’s going to get if we don’t take emergency action… 👇 Sadly the planet doesn’t work like that. It doesn’t care what we believe or think is politically possible.

This is Dr James Hansen, the then NASA scientist who woke the world up to climate change in 1988. He warns here that climate change will be the equivalent devastation to a direct hit from an asteroid. The media doesn’t believe this and so won’t make it clear to you. They think they know better. The media are the problem.
