Last Thursday was a great night at Lady Bird! We celebrated Hispanic Heritage with our students and families through art, music, games, food, and a whole lot of creativity. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make it such a fun celebration of culture and community!
Six weeks in at Lady Bird & De Zavala and a lot has been going on! 102 lessons, a mysterious missing librarian, Sora & Beanstack investigations, R4D research support, online resource games, the start of Book Club and Gamers Clubs. It's been a good start.

How is the first six weeks almost over? It feels like a blur. At JMS and DZ we’ve had orientation, Sora and Beanstack lessons, the start of book clubs and gamers’ clubs. It’s been a lot of work, but having the library full of happy kids learning and exploring is always a joy.

One final library reflection for the year. I always want the library to be a happy space where students can learn, explore, and connect. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for filling the library with curiosity, creativity, and community all year long.

It was quite a week! At DZ, students explored summer reading opportunities, while Mr Garcia’s class paired their novel study of Esperanza Rising with a STEM challenge. And to top it all off I got to spend DZ Career Day with two of my favorite people in the world.
It was a week full of research in the JMS library! 8th grade science dug into human drivers of climate change, 8th grade RLA examined shifts in technology, and 7th RLA researched inspiring change makers. The focus was reading to learn, using reliable resources, and giving credit!
During the fifth six weeks, the library focused on helping students get STAAR-ready. From inference with creepy short texts, hands-on practice using transition words, to editing/revision escape rooms, students strengthened the literacy skills they'll use on testing day and beyond

For nearly two decades, O’Dell has helped Irving ISD students build confidence and lifelong outdoor skills through the Outdoor Adventures program. From archery and fishing to outdoor cooking and conservation, students gain hands on experiences that extend learning far beyond the classroom.

The JMS GT Department would like to congratulate the winners of this year’s GT Research for Discovery projects! These students demonstrated outstanding research, creativity, and presentation skills while exploring important topics and sharing their ideas with others. 💚🦅💙
Another great year at #NTTBfest It’s always a special thing to see kids excited about books and getting to see their favorite authors. It’s a long day, but it’s one that they remember. And a big thanks to the DZ and Lady Bird staff that gave up their Saturday to make it possible.

We kicked off #ReadAcrossAmerica Week @irvingisd with an inspiring visit from author Leticia Ordaz! 📚✨ She met with our 6th grade girls @LamarMS & @netzeroJMS to talk about the power of finding your sister circle—lifting each other up with support, kindness, & empowerment💞🫶🏽
It was such a pleasure to welcome author @LeticiaOrdazTV to Lady Bird today as she shared her book The Power of a Sister Circle / El Poder del Circulo de Hermanas! Our sixth grade girls discussed lifting one another up, building community, and using their voices with courage.

This six weeks the kids chose and read books about the Holocaust. They logged their reading on Beanstack, & analyzed their stories. Thanks to @DZLibrary for finding the books for us. (Projects on: The boys who challenged Hitler, The Bicycle Spy, and The Faithful Spy shown below)
