BREAKING: "Speculative data center debt is being repackaged and sold to pension and retirement funds, university endowments, and other institutional investors in a manner eerily reminiscent of the subprime bubble," per AFR
beyond parody tbh
she chose to have kids after she knew that jail was a certainty *for this very reason*
And see the stats of men in jail, saying that having less women in jail would free up more space for men is unhinged af.
Significantly lower sentence if a woman on crimes..
Elizabeth Holmes’s crimes were egregious. But far fewer women, with or without children, should be incarcerated at all, writes Tyler Cowen. thefp.com/p/tyler-cowen-eliz…
Like I'm sorry but men already get significantly higher sentences for the same crime and proportionally there are a *lot* more of them in jail.
Maybe this article is just ragebait but I'm not certain

Fun fact: If I’m not mistaken California is constitutionally forbidden from raising taxes on the one thing that cannot leave
Replying to @gabriel_zucman
Hence their result:
Because billionaires leave forever, the state of California loses an infinite stream of income tax revenue.
But because the dreaded annual wealth tax never materializes, the state gains nothing in revenue (beyond the one-time tax).
This is what delivers their net loss of nearly $40 billion.

Fascinating. Amazon says it has telemetry showing PHP2Shell was being exploited on Oct. 17—that is, four days prior to public disclosure.
Not known who was doing it. "It remains unclear how the actor acquired exploit information prior to disclosure."

Theoretically, stuff like this is *such* an easy fix in the UK. The Labour Party holds >400 seats in the Commons. They could pass it virtually without effort.
But there's just no interest in a serious, pragmatic rewrite of the tax code.

I have --- not making this up --- dreamed of this day since the late 1990s when I started arguing on Bugtraq that we should be doing full disclosure, rather than elaborate embargoes, so people could make exactly this decision (take the uptime hit to protect users).
Prices are a bit intriguing
Microsoft is opening up Xbox Cloud Gaming to anyone in November, and it's now revealing the pricing of cloud hours. Xbox Cloud Gaming’s pay-as-you-go option starts at $3.99 for 10 hours. Details 👇theverge.com/news/1015321/xb…

Now would be a good day to look at The PHP Foundation website and see how few organisations and people sponsor the development of this cornerstone of the Internet.
alright it was 2 months between the disclosure of that PHP RCE and the patches rolling out
uh oh but I'm sorry things like these aren't really acceptable anymore, there needs to be a faster process somehow
did shut down my blog for now
it's WordPress-based so not too many options unfortunately, but maybe it's time to roll something more... static

Recently attended an in-person handheld game console hackathon. I wrote a raycaster by hand. Someone wearing a “I ❤️ slop” tshirt saw mine and said “oh I wrote a ray caster too!”. They showed me. It was a ray *tracer* and claude did all the work. The person didn’t know basic graphics terms. They couldn’t answer basic questions about how it worked, could only talk about their prompting harness. Sad how AI is ruining the craft and community for people that actually like to program and have spent their lives getting good at it.
not sure if this very haphazard non-disclosure for bugs exploited in the wild is a great idea
yes, even if it's going to be public later that same day
PHP sites behind Cloudflare already have an initial set of WAF rules deployed for the known exploit vectors in these vulnerabilities. The rules are available to all customers, including free.
We are seeing early attacks emerging and are updating mitigations as new vectors show up.
This is a STOPGAP only. Patch as soon as @ThePHPF releases the update at 14:00 UTC today.
