Still plenty of Devils Bit Scabious in the New Forest with an interesting stem comparison between grazed and non-grazed areas… very short indeed in grazed areas. Completely unaffected by the storm @wildflower_hour #WildflowerHour
💔Tragic: swifts are finding their chicks dumped in skips and their nests blocked up by building work. 🚨We need an emergency system that forces police & councils to act IMMEDIATELY when nests are threatened. Sign the petition now 👇 you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio… via @38degrees

Alarm: dead fish in Sopley Stream
A blue sheen & dead fish led to reports to Environment Agency. Our tests found no ammonia & v low nitrate & phosphate, suggesting chemical spill not sewage.
EA was helpful & is investigating. Lab analysis will determine cause

Parts of the New Forest are seeing a resurgence of heathers following rain. Calluna vulgaris (ling) is plentiful in wetter areas. Erica cinerea (bell heather) & Erica tetralix (cross leaved heath) still to be found @wildflower_hour #WildflowerHour

The New Forest is renowned for deer and today there are around 3,000 living here.
We have quiet areas for deer to rest and feed during the rut, please keep a look out for the amber and red signs which mark these conservation areas.
Find out more: forestryengland.uk/new-fores…

ALT A trio of deer stands in a misty, open field with dense shrubbery. One deer, with prominent antlers, looks forward while the others graze and observe the surroundings. The distant background features a line of tall, blurred trees under a pale sky.

ALT A red sign from Forestry England reads: "Stop! Deer quiet area. Do not enter the quiet area as this is where the deer rest." Additional instructions are to keep out of the quiet area, stay on paths, keep dogs on leashes, and not to disturb the deer. Professional photography requires permission. The sign is mounted on a wooden post with a forest background.

El Nino is already at 3.05C, months ahead of its peak. 2015's Super El Nino reached 3.02C at its November peak.
Scientists are now predicting a peak of 4.0C in November - the strongest event for 1,000+ years.
This is off the charts.

For me, it comes down to this: when compounding crises threaten our water supply, do we want corporations and billionaires in control of it?

"A group of sea swimmers have said they are 'furious' after multiple sewage spills left their club's regular bathing spot 'dangerous' and 'unusable'."

Berries for @wildflower_hour. Difficult to find fresh berries – so many small and shrivelled by drought. Spindle, Black Bryony, Guelder Rose, Blackberry (ripe in June so now witchy) Sloes (also ripe in June ) Rosa rugosa
Clearly the Stour. New Forest Water Watch monitor 4 streams flowing into Christchurch Harbour. It’s not them eg the Mude was 4500, the Clockhouse 38 000 CFU/100ml. A bad bad result; 38 x above bathing limit, but orders of magnitude different from CHOMS’ result. NEAT SEWAGE.
"Just to make clear how dramatic these [E. coli] readings were, the level considered unsafe for bathing is 1,000 colony-forming units per 100ml. The group’s highest reading showed 370,000."
Christchurch Harbour everyone, Christchurch Harbour.
