Orbital Daily Maritime Security Update confirms at least four tankers hit on Oct. 29-30: - Qatari-owned Al MAYEDA - UAE-owned ARZANAH - UAE-owned LOUISE 1 - Chinese-owned RITI *- UAE-owned STONE was turned around, unclear yet if it was attacked.
Four tankers attacked in two days, and #Iran's campaign has moved into the central Gulf. On 30 October the LPG carrier AL MAYEDA (IMO 9397298) was hit by three Iranian projectiles about 40 nm south of Lavan Island, damaging its accommodation block and starting a fire. The crew is safe. It is the third LNG carrier struck in October, and the first attack this week well inside the Gulf, on routes used by traffic to #Qatar, #Bahrain and the #SaudiArabia and #UAE coasts. The tankers attacked on 29 and 30 October: ARZANAH (IMO 9928023), VLCC, targeted in the Strait of Hormuz RITI (IMO 9249075), Suezmax, hit by a missile off Musandam. Oman's navy evacuated 25 crew LOUISE 1 (IMO 9290323), Suezmax, limpet mines attached from a small boat AL MAYEDA (IMO 9397298), LNG carrier, three projectiles south of Lavan Island A fifth, the UAE-owned product tanker STONE (IMO 9380362), was intercepted by the IRGC Navy and forced to reverse course. UKMTO reports more than 30 attacks on shipping in October, the highest monthly total of the war. All eyes are now on 3 November. The US President has promised no strikes on Iran before the midterm elections, #Israel is pressing for joint strikes immediately after, and Iran warns of an "earth-shattering blow" if attacked. #Qatar and #Pakistan are still pushing for a deal. Orbital assesses a US strike on Iran is a realistic possibility in the next 7 days and likely in the next 30, with Iranian retaliation against #Gulf shipping, anchorages and ports highly likely if it happens. Today's Orbital Daily Maritime Security Update includes a new scenario panel for the Gulf, from de-escalation to escalation, and outlook tables for every region. Available to Orbital clients. #MaritimeSecurity #StraitOfHormuz #PersianGulf #LNG #Tankers #RiskIntelligence #OrbitalRisk

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says it’s “quite terrible” that people have so much DRAM sitting in their own PCs instead of being used in data centers. “Everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer. And be used 5% of the time,” He argues that cloud data centers should make better use of limited memory supplies instead of people running AI models locally.

There are absolutely valid criticisms of how protective presence operates in the West Bank, particularly when people monetize Palestinian suffering, center themselves, or become more of a liability to the communities they’re supposedly there to protect. But I think it’s deeply misguided to dismiss protective presence as a concept, especially when Palestinians themselves have explicitly called for international volunteers to provide it. Protective presence has a long history in Palestine. It can serve a real purpose, whether accompanying farmers facing settler attacks, helping communities remain on their land, documenting Israeli violence, or attempting to deter it through international visibility. That doesn’t mean every volunteer is effective, or that good intentions automatically translate into meaningful protection. We should be demanding more accountability and more meaningful solidarity, not ridiculing the very idea of people physically showing up for Palestinians. And we shouldn’t forget people like Rachel Corrie, Tom Hurndall, and Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who were killed by Israeli forces while standing in solidarity with Palestinians. Their sacrifices are a reminder that this history cannot simply be reduced to performative activism or Instagram likes. I can’t speak to everyone’s intentions, particularly in the age of social media, and I certainly don’t think international volunteers should be beyond criticism. But there’s a difference between criticizing people who exploit solidarity and dismissing a practice that Palestinian communities have requested and continue to rely on. The question should be how to make protective presence more effective, accountable, and responsive to Palestinian needs, not whether we should discourage people from showing up in the first place.

Last month Radwan Mortada exposed Israel’s pager attack, in Al Jazeera’s most watched film in recent history. 2 weeks ago Israeli troops looted his house and blew it up. This week they were caught bugging his phone for the 3rd time. This is how Israel responds to factual journalism:
Yesterday, I received a security notification from Apple warning me that my iPhone had been targeted by a sophisticated mercenary spyware attack, involving technology of the kind developed by companies such as NSO Group, the Israeli firm behind the notorious Pegasus spyware. Perhaps the most alarming aspect of Apple’s warning was its confirmation that such attacks target specific individuals “because of who you are or what you do.” This is not the first time I have been targeted by spyware. I was previously targeted with Pegasus in both 2017 and 2021. I do not yet know who is behind this latest attack, or whether it is connected to my investigative documentary, The Trap, which I directed and co-produced. The film, available on Al Jazeera 360, exposed the details of the September 2024 pager explosions in Lebanon. What is certain, however, is that the targeting of journalists with sophisticated spyware poses a grave threat to press freedom, the confidentiality of journalistic sources, and the very foundations of independent investigative journalism.

🚨 donate urgently to bring clean water to the children of gaza — no child should cry themselves to sleep from thirst! 🚨 👉 For immediate contribution: chuffed.org/project/help-the… 💔 Imagine hearing your child cry for water and having absolutely nothing to give them. Not a single drop. Imagine a mother sitting inside a torn displacement tent, holding her thirsty little girl in her arms. The child keeps asking for water, but her mother can only look at the empty container beside them. What can she say to her daughter? How can she explain that something as basic as a cup of clean water has become almost impossible to find? 💧 This is the heartbreaking reality facing children across Gaza. Children stand in endless lines, clutching empty containers with their tiny hands, waiting desperately for our water trucks. Some are barefoot. Some are exhausted. Some are too young to understand why they must struggle for something every child deserves. They are not waiting for toys. They are not asking for sweets. They are waiting for water because they are thirsty, and their families have nowhere else to turn. 💔 We are a team of young Palestinians working directly inside Gaza, delivering clean drinking water to displaced families who desperately need it. Despite the destruction, shortages, and enormous challenges, we continue reaching displacement camps where children and mothers wait for our arrival. 💧 Through our relief efforts, we have distributed 70,000 liters of clean water to families in need. But even 70,000 liters cannot end this suffering. The containers we fill will become empty again. The water we deliver will run out. And tomorrow, those same children will return, hoping another truck will arrive. 💔 The most painful moment is knowing that children will still need water tomorrow, while we do not know whether we will have enough funding to deliver it. 🚨 Our donations are dangerously low, and our ability to continue distributing water depends on your support. 💧 $300 provides a truck carrying 10,000 liters of clean water. Every donation, whether small or large, helps us bring another truck closer to families waiting desperately for clean water. Please, do not scroll past these children. Somewhere in Gaza, a mother is holding an empty container, hoping someone will help her give her children something to drink. You can help turn that empty container into clean water. 🚨 DONATE NOW. HELP US KEEP THE WATER TRUCKS MOVING. 👉 chuffed.org/project/178918 🤍 If you cannot donate, please quote this post, repost it, and share it with everyone you know. Your voice could help us reach the people who can keep these water deliveries going. No child should have to beg for water. No mother should have to watch her children suffer from thirst. Our heartfelt thanks to those who continue carrying the voices of Gaza’s children to the world: 🤍 William Menaker — @willmenaker 🤍 Eyup Lovely — @eyuplovely 🤍 Felix — @ByYourLogic ❤️ Claire — @ZeroSuitCamus And to every person donating, sharing, and standing beside the children of Gaza: your compassion helps keep our work alive. 💧 Please help us deliver the next 10,000 liters of clean water. 👉 For immediate contribution: chuffed.org/project/help-the… 🇵🇸🤍

sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources “a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

That’s more murdered children than hostages that were captured on October 7th, yet for some reason mainstream media hasn’t touched this story in over a year. This has never been a “ceasefire” by any reasonable metric.
🚨UNICEF Announces That 351 Children In Gaza Have Been Killed Since The Beginning Of The Ceasefire That’s roughly one child a day that Israel has killed.

Live report: “The port belongs to those who work there, and to this city." Dockworkers at more than 110 ports in 22 countries, across five continents, are striking today against the genocide in Gaza and the arms shipments that sustain it. In Genoa, thousands of port workers and students have joined USB's general strike. Now, after the manifestation started with burning tires in the streets and blocking the roadway to the terminals, thousands are marching through the city. "Today we'll block everything, then march into the port, because the port is our home,” said José Nivoi of CALP. I'll be here reporting on the ground throughout the day as things develop. (This video has captions with the Italian roughly translated.)
LIVER FROM GENOA 🇮🇹 Alex Colston (@re_colston) reports for the @ProgIntl from the picket line, where dockers are refusing to work for war. Genoa is one of 113 ports workers have shut down across 22 countries as part of today's international day of action.
