@newtforce on wheels helping pitcher’s develop while we build a permanent home.
Elite front leg, capped back leg. Head position at peak load was the whole story.
Four cues, one session: Player Velo 5.39 → 6.05, Accel 0.24 → 0.28, Y-Back 0.55 → 0.76, YZ Transfer Back → 0.03s.
For a college freshman coming into his first spring: two mound numbers to hit.
Accel Impulse Score above **0.28** (mid-to-upper college range).
Player Velo above **6 mph**.
Both scale together. Player Velo is almost a direct reflection of Accel Impulse. Move one, the other moves with it. Move both, velocity follows.
Head over back foot at peak load is the most common back-leg force killer in high school pitchers.
You want the head inside the back foot. That's what lets a pitcher produce down-force into the mound and back-toward-second-base force at the same time.
Same body. Same strength. Different sequencing. Different velocity.
YZ Transfer Back is the single most-attackable back-leg metric in the lab.
It's the time between back-leg peak Z and back-leg peak Y. Get it under 0.10 seconds and Player Velo + Accel Impulse Score improve automatically
The ideal isn't a shorter transfer. It's the two peaks overlapping.
Player Velo 5.39 → 6.05. Accel Impulse 0.24 → 0.28. YZ Transfer Back dropped to 0.03. Same session.
The fix wasn't strength or new mechanics. It was head position at peak load.
Elite lead leg block, but his head was directly over his back foot, and that single positional choice was capping the back leg force.
The coaching cue: stride farther down the mound to create deception.
The reality: over-striding is why you're landing heel-first, and heel-first is why your block leg won't accept the force.
Elite back leg — Z Back in the pro range. Broken block.
The villain isn't the athlete, it's the coaching cue he was raised on. Overstride → heel-first → no rotation → pole vault.
Fix: dispel, constraint, shot put, whole foot.
The Z curve is the tell.
When a pitcher lands heel-first instead of whole-foot at the same time, the curve shows it: initial force peak, drop-off, then rolls into a second peak. That drop-off is the block leg failing to accept force. There's no stable base to rotate around the front hip yet.
Whole-foot contact isn't a preference. It's what makes the block possible.
Throwing the front leg into full extension isn't a stabilizer. It's a compensation.
Without rotation around the front hip, the only way through the delivery is to pole-vault over the top of the block leg. That's what shows up as premature release. That's what shows up as command issues.
The block isn't about extension. It's about rotation.
