A few thoughts on building a basic PACE plan for comms. Most people stop at "I have a radio." That's Primary only. When it fails, and it will, you need the rest.
Primary โ What you use when everything is working. Your normal radio, frequency, and schedule. Keep it clean and low signature.
Alternate โ Same net, different gear or frequency. A handheld instead of a mobile, or a second frequency already programmed and tested.
Contingency โ A different band, mode, or method entirely. HF instead of VHF/UHF, a different radio type, or a messenger. It shouldn't rely on the same infrastructure or power as the first two.
Emergency โ Last resort. It should work with zero RF. Pre-arranged visual signals, dead drops, runners, or "if you don't hear from me by X time, do Y." It has to work even if every radio you own is dead or compromised.
Write it down. Brief the people who need it. Then practice the switches, especially Primary to Alternate and Contingency, under stress or on a clock. The plan you only talk about is the one that fails.
Nothing fancy. Just decide in advance what "good enough" looks like when the easy option is gone.

You will find these to be the 4 most common knots you need in life and variations of these knots are included in most other knots.
1) Square Knot (Reef Knot)
2) Bowline (the strongest non-binding/ adjustable knot)
3) Clove hitch
4) Overhand knot
There are various ways to tie the bowline and square knot & achieve the same finished knot. I demonstrated the way I learned these at the age of 6. Once you understand how a knot functions and looks, learning other ways to tie the same thing can come in handy.

I am SO thankful Florida held the line. We avoided some of the MOST horrendous US House wipeouts (still losing some) and our statewide remained red. The legislature is still red
