At this point it just feels like a giant game of chess, and we are the pawns.

Great line from the CTO of Proton. Iβm paraphrasing and stealing it :
Your job is not to use agents to help you write code. Your job is to lead the agents to help them write code.

Here's a paper that colleagues and I published in a journal of Civil Engineering. It counters myths about the WTC collapses and discusses critical failures of the official reports. tinyurl.com/yavfbbjm

Weβve trained Claude to flag potential misuse in conversations, a technique we call self-assessment. Right after it responds, Claude gives a preliminary safety assessment of the conversation.
Since we began using self-assessment in June, it has surfaced misuse that our other safeguards werenβt designed to catch.
Because Claude has already read the conversation, self-assessment is very efficient. And unlike classifiers, which target a discrete set of harms, it draws on Claudeβs own judgment, so it gets more accurate as our models improve.

You are most definitely living through the collapse of the US right now. Plan accordingly.
You are living through the collapse; you arenβt waiting for it to happen. On 9/11 survivors reported hearing loud booms and the building shaking as the floors pancaked on one another. Just because they werenβt trapped and surrounded by choking white dust yet doesnβt mean that the building wasnβt collapsing. You are on the ground floor of the World Trade Center.

"from a global allocation perspective" is exactly what's wrong with these type people. Next they will take your car; it's only used 5% of the time. Then your XBOX. Then your wife.
I love having powerful computers that sit there and wait for me. That's what it means to be rich.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources
βa lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre
but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time
you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment
somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of thatβ
