I know you’re not supposed to care about tweets but yet again, look at the ratio on this. Literally thousands of replies pushing Great Replacement conspiracy thinking, some rationalizing violence. Prominent racists like Sailer amplifying and people thanking Elon for spreading it

The obvious reason why it's important to try Trump before the election is that it's important that he face a trial for his attempt to overturn the 2020 election, and if he wins, that won't happen.

No: "The mother said she thinks there 'needs to be some legislation […] to protect parents” at private schools.'” flvoicenews.com/parents-outr… The protection is your ability to leave & take your $ with you. That & your handbook or other contract laying out terms you AGREE to.

A great in-depth interview with @SteveReich in @FT @FinancialTimes today, in which the composer talks about his early life, obsession with Stravinsky, and recent inspirations. Read here: ft.com/content/02edd1fa-8e18…

Right-wingers are just saying with their whole chest now that immigrants are "the destruction of our civilization." No one seems to remember but 5-10 years ago this stuff was the province of neo-Nazis. No pretense of caring about jobs or anything like that, it's just the 14 words

I wrote about the soul-sucking labor of self-promotion and "audience building" that basically every artist/journalist/creative worker has to do now ... unless they are very lucky vox.com/culture/2024/2/1/240…

Underrated: journalists skew college educated, cosmopolitan, and white collar. All of which correlates to thinness and good health relative to the gen pop. And this, shall we call it “class-based health privilege,” shaped the tenor of the reaction to the new weight loss drugs.

I actually can’t get over this quote from Hamas, a profoundly misogynist fundamentalist organization that no one disputes has *murdered* women, including a grandmother whose family learned of her death after Hamas used her phone to upload a photo of her body to her Facebook.

A lot of commentators tonally go back and forth between condescending assertions of expertise when they encounter someone less credentialed, and populist "little guy" rhetoric when encountering someone more credentialed. The common throughline is the fascination with status.

We're now into February — and more than three weeks since the expedited arguments were held lawdork.com/p/dc-circuit-tru… — with no DC Circuit immunity decision. As @kyledcheney and @joshgerstein laid out yesterday, every day is a gift for Trump. politico.com/news/2024/01/31…

I know I keep saying this, but he really is our worst senator. And yes, I know how bad some of the other senators are.
Tom Cotton: "Have you ever been a member of the Chinese Communist Party?" TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew: "Senator, I'm Singaporean. No!" Cotton: "Have you ever been associated or affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party?" Chew: "No, Senator. Again, I'm Singaporean!"

I got to do it today. A lawyer's dream. I asked a falsely pious person who testified that the 10 commandments were the most important thing in his life to simply "Name them" He was unable.

SAY IT AGAIN FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK TRUMP TRIED THIS IT GOT BLOCKED TRUMP HAD TO TRY A BUNCH OF OTHER STUFF TRUMP SPENT THE FIRST HALF OF 2019 FREAKED OUT ABOUT HOW HIGH BORDER APPREHENSIONS WERE
In 2018, Trump tried to use an authority that Johnson has cited to curtail border crossings. But a federal appeals court ruled that the authority conflicts with asylum law and the authority doesn’t override it, underscoring the limits of the president. cnn.com/2024/01/31/politics/…

There needs to be a civics textbook for social media. For example, many express strong opinions about the First Amendment (like those who say "can't shout fire in a theater") who are factually wrong. Conversation between the educated and ignorant results in condescension.
You do realize that the First Amendment applies to government, not companies, right? Basic civics. Platforms have a 1A right to moderate. Spam, racism, sexism, harassment are all free speech. Doesn't mean platforms have to allow it.
