Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) has been confirmed in snowshoe hares in the Northwest Territories.
The disease affects rabbits and hares and is not known to cause illness in humans. Residents can help limit its spread by avoiding contact with sick or dead hares, keeping pets away from carcasses, and reporting unusual hare mortalities to their local ECC Regional Office. gnwt.ca/your-government/cont…

Rabbit haemorrhagic disease has been confirmed in snowshoe hares in the southern NWT. There is no risk to the public as the disease is not known to cause illness in humans. If you see a sick or dead hare, don’t touch or move it. Report it.

In May 2026, White-nose syndrome was detected for the first time in bats in the South Slave region.
White-nose syndrome threatens all five species of hibernating bats in the NWT, including the little brown myotis and the northern myotis.
This disease poses no health risk to humans and is not known to affect other wildlife.

Elections Alberta ran out of ballots in several First Nations during Monday's vote, claiming turnout was higher than expected.
