Kiaran Ritchie argues that developers aren’t really paying Valve’s 30% cut for its services, they’re paying for access to Steam’s huge player base.
He believes most Steam users simply have no reason to move to another store, even if it offers a better experience.
“They played capitalism so well they broke it.”
Ritchie says that Steam has become so dominant that developers can’t afford to ignore it, leaving them with no choice but to accept the 30% cut.
I guess the @DeadbyDaylight team forgot this is 2026. This type of press release will only further damage their reputation. Or they really want to destroy this IP because they secretly hate it? Sure seems like it.

I think it's wild that I post a random video about an IRL streamer and it gets a bunch of engagement across all platforms. But if I post something similar that is related to TPUSA, Erika Kirk, Candace Owens, etc. It gets buried.
The audience size for the buried content is about a thousand times bigger than the random IRL streamer I posted about.
I think @elonmusk pulled a @realDonaldTrump on us with X. And I bet this post gets next to no engagement or visibility because of the names included.

This weekend, a Dead by Daylight team member awarded in-game content and currency to a creator streaming our game. Although it is not unusual to unlock content to give creators discovering DbD a chance to have a sneak peek at available content, this decision was made without receiving appropriate approvals. Furthermore, the team member's subsequent comments and conduct do not align with Dead by Daylight’s core values.
When concerns about this decision became apparent during the stream, we should have responded by looking into these concerns, not dismissing them.
Unfortunately, we’ve now seen the fallout of this decision unfolding in many conversations across the DbD community. We appreciate and stand with our community’s willingness to ensure our shared values are being upheld, at all times, regardless of popularity, and we’re heartbroken at the inflammatory language now being directed towards our community.
At the same time, threatening employees will never be acceptable, and we’re asking everyone to stop engaging with these posts.
We apologize to our community for letting you down. We have already begun reviewing our internal processes to prevent an incident like this from happening again.
