The phantom thread 🪔
Every time he’s on screen, whether he delivers a line or just gives a smirk.. it’s pure gold. His timing & effortless humor never miss. From Stree to Bhediya, Munjya, Stree2 & now #ThammaĀ  , he’s been the thread connecting it all. @nowitsabhi aka JAANA The SOUL of MHCU !

Firstly, profuse apology for a monumental screw-up — i.e. typo in the name of the director of Stolen; (Karan) Tejpal gone as Tyagi, in the paper’s print edition (change made online). That said, taut is a peculiar adjective. It means tight, of course. Somehow, I’ve never seen it used in any other context — say, relationships, shoelaces, pants, comic-routines… The word only goes with films, for some reason — specifically, when you call a thriller, a ā€œtaut thrillerā€! And that’s precisely the description I inevitably come across, among critics/content-creators, to do with the film Stolen (@PrimeVideoIN): co-written, directed by debutant, @karantejpal94; co-written, produced by @gd24380. It’s set over a night in the boondocks of, presumably, Haryana/Rajasthan, with three leads: an impoverished woman (@mia_maelzer ), whose child got stolen, while she was asleep on a railway platform; an affluent bloke (Shubham Vardhan), who was then on that platform; and his brother (@nowitsabhi), who’s come down to pick him up from the mofussil railway station, in the dead of the night. This triggers off a series of wholly unpredictable events/incidences, unwittingly involving those two urban dudes, who were merely on their way to their mom’s destination-wedding. How do you arrive at a taut thriller, so to say? I suppose, foremost, by trimming all the fat from the screenplay — that rarely, if ever, segues into detailed backstories, forget flashbacks for concerned concerned. Viewer must join dots. Attention mustn’t waver. Plot’s the point. So, for instance, while you can figure the underprivileged girl Jhumpa in the film is possibly a tribal; in a scene, she mentions Bonbini, who’s the guardian spirit of Sunderbans, spanning southern Bangladesh and West Bengal. I ask director Tejpal, producer Dhingra, where she’s from? ColumnšŸ‘‡šŸ½link in bio.

Rating: āļøāļøāļøĀ½ #Stolen is CAPTIVATING. #AbhishekBanerjee WHAT A TALENT. šŸ«”šŸ”„ Aces the character and delivers an another banger performance, sheer brilliance. The film is crafted very well, and keeps you glued for most of the time. The best thing about the film is that it is RAW. Completely raw and rooted. An excellent captivating watch. Though there are some moments where there is a dip and the thrill factor lacks, but makes up with all the excellently high moments. #ShubhamVardhan is amazing, #MiaMaelzer performs very well, the rest cast also provides good support. Recommended. Director #KaranTejpal has done a good job. @nowitsabhi @PrimeVideoIN

For years, Abhishek Banerjee has been the guy you remember, even if you didn’t know his name. A blink-and-miss cameo in Rang De Basanti. The haunting Hathoda Tyagi in Paatal Lok — equal parts terrifying and tragic. A master of supporting roles, always leaving a mark. But today, Abhishek Banerjee isn’t just stealing scenes. He’s owning the screen. With Stolen, he’s delivered a performance so raw, so gut-wrenching, it's being hailed as the role of a lifetime. From Rajkummar Rao to Nushrratt Bharuccha, Ali Fazal to Rana Daggubati — his peers are standing up and applauding. And there’s more. In the upcoming season of Rana Naidu, Abhishek returns as Jaffa — the quietly complicated son of Venkatesh’s character. Once Bollywood’s best-kept secret, Abhishek Banerjee is now front and centre — where he’s always belonged. Here’s to the boy in the background, who never stopped believing. And to the man in the spotlight, who’s just getting started. @nowitsabhi #AbhishekBanerjee #Stolen #IndianCinema #IndianActor

As I settled in with my dinner and started watching #StolenOnPrime I noticed the runtime just 1h29m. ā€œThat’s a short film!ā€ I said to myself. I didn’t finish my dinner, and by the time I reached the 1h22m mark, it somehow felt like I’d been watching since forever... The experience was so immersive, time seemed to stretch. When the credits rolled, I was left speechless. My craving for an outstanding Hindi movie had, at last, been thoroughly satisfied.
