Huge congratulations to our International Fellow, @chewapreecha, on winning the @LOrealParisTH Woman in Science Thailand award! 🎉
To find out more about Claire and her work, check out out blog ➡️ sangerinstitute.blog/2021/07…
Thrilled to be awarded L'Oreal for women in science Thailand 2021. The programme has a long standing reputation in supporting female scientists, many of whom I truly admire. Apart from the prize itself, we are delighted to raise an awareness on Melioidosis. @LOrealParisTH

Congratulations Grace. This is an important contribution enabling better access to the data we have all contributed to the global databases. I say to understand the biases in the data is to identify the opportunities for biological insight. Great study well done.
Excited to announce that the 661K resource is now live at Plos Biology @PLOSBiology

We uniformly assembled, ran quality control and performed general characterisation on 661,405 bacterial genomes that were in the ENA at the end of November 2018.

It's a brilliant scheme aimed at bringing women and men who have taken a career break back into research. It's so easy to lose talented experienced scientists. I would welcome suitable candidates into my group. Please retweet

Can I express my heart felt congratulations to François-Xavier Weill, MD, PhD of the Institut Pasteur for his recent promotion to Professor. There is no better ID scientist than FX. His name brings great prestige to the rank and I am over the moon for him - about time too.

Many congratulations to my friend and long time colleague Sam Kariuki, Royal Society Pfizer Prize winner. A great scientist and mentor of many. His work on Salmonella disease and AMR in Africa alone is world leading.

Great paper now out from @GraceBlackwel1 !
biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Grace wanted to study MGEs across the bacterial phylogeny, so assembled 661,405 bacterial genomes (all data from ENA as of Nov 2018, minus those failing QC), providing the community with a great resource. 1/n

Very pleased to see this multi disciplined team effort up, we combined sequencing and mobile phone data to show the impact of large-scale migration in Bangladesh when workplaces closed. Essential that genomic surveillance capacity is increased globally medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
We are looking to recruit those interested in analytical approaches to tracking infectious diseases using mobile phone data or interrogating the respiratory microbiome. U would work with the foremost experts in the field.

First SARS-CoV-2 Argentina genomes generated at @ANLIS_Malbran. Amazing group effort from respiratory viruses and our group. Special 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻to @Poklepovich @lorenz_efe Ezequiel and @JohaMonteserin from UK. Very proud for this team. No resting, more genomes generated right now!
Thanks to @SADI_ORG and @GISAID, we now have 3 genomes from Argentina on nextstrain.org/ncov! None of these viruses cluster with other viruses from South America, instead nesting with viruses from the US and Europe.
A fantastic achievement! Our good friend Josefina Campos from the Malbrán Institute @JJocampos23 has just uploaded today the first Argentinian Covid19 genome sequence, putting her country on the global response map. Who came to see her to say well done: only the President!
