I am an appellate lawyer and persnickety dude. As a hobby, I correct typos in the Times, which no longer employs copy editors and consequently has tons of typos

Joined September 2019
I heard I was a clue on Celebrity Jeopardy last night. Unfortunately the prompt was not “They call this lawyer the living Christ of amateur copyediting”

Typo 26 of the day, by @el72champs: reinforce’s is one of those weird apostrophe errors illiterate people make, for reinforces.
Replying to @nyttypos
Typos 24 and 25 of the day: ungrammatically omitted comma before an appositive modifier. The Times modifies capitalization in quotes to follow its style, so you have to lowercase government. @julieturkewitz @ewong @Adamentous

Typos 1 through 3 of the day, by @ShaneGoldmacher and polling editor @RuthIgielnik: you misspelled advantage as advtange, who is an error for whom (it’s the object of trust), and you’re missing a space in mostDemocratic.
15 typos and style guide violations that I had time to get to yesterday. Typos 1 and 2 of the day: Their is a pronoun-antecedent-agreement error for his because nouns preceded by as well as are parenthetical. Fused participle one word later. @EricLiptonNYT @antontroian

Typos 22 and 23 of the day: misuse of according to. The nurses didn’t say this according to the complaint, which means the complaint alleges they said it somewhere else; the nurses said it in the complaint. Bonus extra space. @RaR @ReedAbelson

Fused participle (it should be its). I wouldn’t hyphenate this phrase if I were you. @WillSammon

31 typos and style guide violations yesterday. Typos 1 and 2 of the day: “All through ‘The Art of Fielding’ years” is a bad grammatical error/misquote by Elisabeth Egan for “All through the ‘Art of Fielding’ years.” The modifies years. Bonus missing space. cc @jen_harlan

Typos 18 and 19 of the day: “to do so” has no antecedent. “Name on a legal filing” is not an antecedent of “to do so”; you need a verb for “to do so” to refer back to. Fused participle. @GlennThrush @katierogers @KannoYoungs

Typo 20 of yesterday:
Replying to @mikerosenwald
“The Inside Pitch” podcast is a grammatical error for the “Inside Pitch” podcast. The podcast is called “The Inside Pitch,” but you need a “the” outside the quotes to modify podcast. Then you cut the one from the title.

DOJ isn't seeking to stop the certification of Alaska's election?!? Its complaint sure seems to be asking for that, though some sort of drafting glitch (is the word "Enjoin" missing from the beginning of paragraph 44?) makes that not entirely clear.
The Department of Justice does not seek to stop any ballot from being cast or to stop the certification of Alaska's election. This litigation seeks to ensure that after Alaskans cast their ballots, they are preserved in a manner so that only Alaska's governing officials have the information necessary to make a determination as to whether Alaskan voters were confused or mislead. The lawsuit was written by Justice Department attorneys and the Department did not coordinate with any campaign or candidate, but rather relied solely on federal law.
