Education Week is unionizing! We are a strong majority of @educationweek’s reporters, artists, researchers, marketers, engagement specialists, and much more. @NewsGuild @CWAUnion @WBNG32035

For years, bad management at @Gannett has led to stagnant wages, unrealistic expectations for journalists and the gutting of local newspapers.
Because we refuse to sit by as corporate charlatans strip our communities of coverage, we are unionizing at Gannett Georgia.

Today, we came into WaPo’s so-called town hall with questions about recent layoffs and the future of the company.
Our publisher dropped a bombshell on us by announcing more layoffs and then walking out, refusing to answer any of our questions.

.@FortWorthGuild isn’t the only place @mcclatchy refuses to bargain with its employees.
We submitted a health insurance plan that provides better coverage while saving employees **and** the company money Nov. 18.
We’ve received zero response — a clear violation of our contract

Solidarity with our @newsguild siblings at the @NYTimesGuild who are WALKING OUT of the workplace today.
The workers are asking YOU:
❌ Don’t read the New York Times
❌ Don’t share their articles
❌ Don’t play Wordle (or the crossword!)
all-day today through midnight.
To our readers: We did not make this decision lightly. We are deeply committed to the success of the @nytimes. We also know that we produce our best work when we feel valued and are treated equitably. Thank you for standing by us today.

solidarity with the @FortWorthGuild and @NYTimesGuild today! it's a scary time to be a journalist but unions are fighting for fair contracts for reporters, photographers and other newsroom employees. proud to be part of the @observerguild 🐝

It’s day 5 of our ULP strike picket. We’d rather be reporting the news but I guess @mcclatchy would rather waste time. Disappointing but not surprising.
Please consider a donation to our fund as we move forward with our strike: gofundme.com/f/fort-worth-ne…

The journalists of the Fort Worth NewsGuild are on a ULP strike, effective immediately.
Members of the Guild decided to strike with an overwhelming majority of support — 91% of signed members — because of @mcclatchy’s continued refusal to bargain in good faith.

🚨 NEW: @newsguild reported that more workers joined in 2021 than in any year stretching back decades.
Organizing in local news isn't new — so what's causing this surge in support?
What are these journalists fighting for — and how effective is the collective action? 🧵

We stand with our unionized colleagues at @OneHeraldGuild, @elnuevoherald and @BHnewsguild in their demand for a fair contract.
The stalling tactics and lack of compromise they’ve seen at the bargaining table are the same classic @mcclatchy practices we’ve seen here. Enough.
BREAKING: We’re walking out.
After more than two years of bargaining with @McClatchy, unionized journalists from the @MiamiHerald, @elnuevonerald and @bradentonherald are refusing to work for 24 hours and demanding a fair contract.

Many of our members are living paycheck to paycheck. But we’re willing to risk a day’s pay because we care deeply about each other and the future of local journalism.
Please consider donating to help soften that loss. Overages will go to @pressfreedom. gofund.me/763f240f

So immensely proud of my former colleagues and thrilled to see @observerguild become a reality -- Charlotte, and every community, deserves a strong local paper, and the journalists who do the work every day deserve to have a voice in the paper's future 🐝
