#Baththa would still have been a great film if it had ended with Sabari’s monologue. But the director had one more epic scene in mind, taking the film to another level and making it truly wonderful.

So, here's something I wanted to talk about Chellame Magale from #Baththa, and the way @VijaySethuOffl performs it on stage in the final act of the film...
While I believe it is @SaiAbhyankkar's best so far, I also love the way Balaji Tharaneetharan uses it in the film.
Braving past your insecurities, especially ones that have been drilled into your psyche, is really tough.
Many dreams have been shattered at the altar of 'What would others say?' Many desires have been let go because the world only allows the best, and fails to even acknowledge the aspirants. Not everyone can be the best in everything, but it shouldn't stop them from trying to be, right?
Again, I love how we come to this aspect of Baththa only after resolving his tiff with Sabari. The film respects Sabari enough to stop turning him into an adult sooner than required before making Baththa tap into the child in him.
And when VJS stands on that stage appearing like a clown with a mic, it felt like Baththa was ready to be ridiculed. He was ready to be trolled. He was ready to be insulted, chewed, and spit out. And yet, he never stopped singing for what he thought to be his world, even if his world wanted him to not sing.
My boy hasn't yet realised that his Avi isn't the greatest of singers. There will come a time, sure. Or not. But if it does, I cannot blame him for having taste, right?
I don't remember my appa singing either. But he might have when he held me close to his chest and rocked me to sleep, right? He might have hummed a few lines when we were returning from the theatre watching a film, right? But I don't remember him singing much. I knew he had a go-to lullaby when I saw him putting my niece to sleep when she was a baby. My core memory kicked in, and I realised he might have sung the same song to me when I was a baby.
So, when I was cradling my boy in my arms, I sang the same song my appa did. It isn't really a song per se, but words strung together to remind the kid that he is the world of his appa and amma.
That is why, after watching Baththa, I remember thinking what if my boy never knows that his Avi loved singing to him? It prompted me to write my own version of Chellame Magale turning it into Chellame Magane, and recording a version of the same.
Baththa didn't want to be remembered as a dreaded gangster, who treated his wife with disdain, and was just feared for what he could be... He wanted to be remembered as a doting dad. Much like Jigarthanda, Seethakathi, Jigarthanda Double X, and a bunch of other films proved... Art has a way of making you transcend generations, and Chellame Magale is a reminder that one piece of art might just be enough to make the world remember you as something completely different than what it remembered you as till then...
At the end of the day, what we all want is to be remembered by our loved ones as long as it is humanly possible, right?

MLA-க்களை Purchase செய்வது, Sofa அனுப்புவது, இடைத்தேர்தல்களில் வாரி இறைத்தது என்று த.வெ.க.வின் முறைகேடான அரசியல் செயல்பாடுகளுக்கும் இவருக்கும் தொடர்பு இருக்கிறதா?

திரு. கலையரசன் அவர்கள் ஏன் கைது செய்யப்பட்டார்? Dravidian Model என்ற பதத்தை முன்வைத்து, திராவிட ஆட்சியால் தமிழ்நாடு அடைந்த வளர்ச்சியை உலகம் முழுவதும் பறைசாற்றியதற்காகவா? த.வெ.க. ஆட்சி அமைந்த பிறகுதான், தமிழ்நாடு இதுவரை சந்தித்திராத விலைவாசி உயர்வைச் சந்தித்துள்ளது என்ற உண்மையைச் சொன்னதற்காகவா?
முட்டாள்களால் நிறைந்த த.வெ.க.வுக்கும் கல்விக்கும் எந்தத் தொடர்பும் இல்லை என்பது அனைவரும் அறிந்ததுதான். ஆனால், கல்வியாளர்களைக் கைது செய்து மிரட்டும் அளவுக்கு அறிவின் மீது ஒவ்வாமை கொண்டவர்களாக இவர்கள் நடந்துகொள்வார்கள் என நிச்சயமாக நினைக்கவில்லை. பாசிசத்தில் பா.ஜ.க.வையும் மிஞ்சிவிடுவார்கள் என்பதைத்தான் இந்தக் கைது காட்டுகிறது. முதலமைச்சரின் ஒப்புதலோடும் உயரதிகாரிகளின் அனுமதியோடும்தான் இந்த அத்துமீறல் நடக்கிறதா?
முனைவர் கலையரசன் அவர்கள் எந்தக் கட்சியையும் சார்ந்தவர் அல்ல. கடந்த ஆட்சிக்காலத்திலும், அவர் சுதந்திரமாகத் தன்னுடைய விமர்சனக் கருத்துகளை முன்வைத்திருக்கிறார். ஆனால், இந்தத் தரங்கெட்ட த.வெ.க. ஆட்சியோ, எங்கள் ஆட்சியைப் பற்றியோ நிர்வாகத் தோல்விகளைப் பற்றியோ ஊடகங்களில் உண்மையைப் பேசினால் விளைவுகள் மோசமாக இருக்கும் என்று மிரட்டும் ரவுடி அரசாகச் செயல்பட்டுள்ளது. இப்படிப்பட்ட அரசிற்கு ஆதரவு அளித்துக் கொண்டு இருக்கும் கட்சிகள், இந்த அநியாயத்தைக் கண்டும் காணாமல் இருப்பது ஏன்? இதுதான் இவர்கள் பாசிசத்தை எதிர்த்துக் கேள்வி கேட்கும் அரசியலா?
புகழ்பெற்ற பேராசிரியர் மீது பொய்யான குற்றச்சாட்டைப் புனைந்து, அவரை அலைக்கழித்து, துன்புறுத்திய த.வெ.க. அரசின் பாசிச செயல் கடும் கண்டனத்துக்குரியது. தமிழ்நாடு காவல்துறையும், அதற்குப் பொறுப்பு வகிக்கும் முதலமைச்சர் அவர்களும் முனைவர் கலையரசன் அவர்களிடம் பகிரங்கமாக மன்னிப்பு கேட்க வேண்டும்!
