when the dust settles and the smoke clears
i’ll still be standing there
aloof, alone
covered in stone
a man reborn
through the smoke
through the fire
as the world burns slow.

Happy birthday to Fela Kuti, born on this day in 1938!
The Nigerian bandleader, saxophonist and singer who forged Afrobeat from highlife, jazz and funk, then turned it into a vehicle for political defiance.

One year later and I'm still not quite over this. Not much else needs to be said about the impact of this man or this turn of the millennium classic. RIP D'Angelo.

Kith CEO @RonnieFieg says social media algorithms have flattened taste:
“Everyone now wants the same thing. You used to be forced to have your own opinion.”
His influence came from riding across Queens, watching completely different cultures get on the train, and walking into stores before the internet had already told everyone what to like.
“Every other stop would be a different culture hopping on the train.”
“What I got to see became my world. That was my influence. I got to see so many different styles, people dressed in so many different ways, and that’s when the sense of individuality was at an all-time high.”
“Before you were influenced by your algorithm, which now, a lot of people want the same things because it’s based off what they see.”
“Back then, when you went shopping, you were forced to have an opinion because you wouldn’t have seen everything.”
“Today, people will walk into a store and know about all the products before they walk in. They’ve already seen someone wearing it, a photo of it, a lookbook of it, a campaign of it.”
“Back then you were just forced to have your own opinion.”
My conversation with @RonnieFieg, founder, CEO and creative director of Kith.
At 13, Ronnie turned down an envelope of cash at his bar mitzvah and asked for a job instead. He started the next day in a sneaker stockroom and spent the next 15 years learning every part of the business before launching Kith in 2011.
Today, Kith puts out more than 5,000 styles a year across apparel, footwear, kids and accessories, and has lines outside its stores from New York to Seoul. It has no outside investors, doesn’t wholesale and doesn’t license. Until recently, Ronnie was still the fit model for the product.
Ronnie describes himself as a world builder, and this conversation is the best explanation I’ve heard of what that means.

Underrated life advice: Become difficult to rush. The world will pressure you to rush into everything. Rushed decisions. Rushed relationships. Rushed conversations. Rushed timelines. There's power in rejecting that trend. Pause. Slow down. Create space to think clearly.

Burnham said: "We've all heard someone say 'school wasn't really for me' because they were not given the chance to study vocational courses as well as traditional subjects.
"That one-size-fits-all approach isn't working, so we're building an education system that values both academic and technical paths.
"I want to give all young people across Britain the hope that their future will be brighter - whether it starts at university or not"

AI is probably the biggest prisoner’s dilemma we’ve ever created. Everyone knows slowing down might be safer. But if OpenAI slows down and Anthropic doesn’t, OpenAI loses. If the US slows down and China doesn’t, the US loses. So nobody slows down.
That’s what makes this so insane. You don’t need some evil person trying to destroy the world. You just need a bunch of people making the rational decision for themselves over and over until collectively we’ve raced somewhere none of us actually wanted to go.
It’s a race to zero. Zero cost of intelligence. Zero time between thinking and doing. Maybe eventually zero need for us at all.
there’s something so beautiful about just sitting & watching ppl.
it’s like watching a real life play where you don’t get to hear any of the plot. you just see faces, gestures, movement, & little moments between strangers. pure visuals.
this calibrates your brain in a way almost nothing else does in terms of how you see / observe the world & how you parse truth. sometimes i leave home without my phone just so i’m forced to sit somewhere & watch the world pass by.
Meta will enforce a two-hour daily limit on Instagram and Facebook for children as part of a record $17.1B settlement with 29 states over social media addiction claims:
• The “Productive Pauses” for children include mandatory pauses after 15 minutes of continuous use and again at 60 and 90 minutes to interrupt endless scrolling
• “Nighttime blocks” restricting children’s access from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
• Limited school-time access for children, eliminating push notifications on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the school year
• Robust age assurance measures to more effectively verify the age of young users
• Safer, age-appropriate content controls, including stronger safeguards against bullying, content promoting eating disorders, and content related to suicide and self-harm
• Stronger, more user-friendly parental controls
• Limits on social comparison features, including beauty filters and visible “like” counts, that have been linked to poor mental health outcomes in kids and teens
• Both the implementation and effectiveness of the features will be regularly assessed by an independent auditor and the settling states

keep going. just keep going. for the love of all that is holy keep going. God has already granted you heaven He’s just letting you reach your limit because when He breaks you you’ll savour that heaven infinitely more divine. none of your efforts went to waste. none of your solitary night tears have dropped without being recorded. the soil that soaked them keeps a perfect score. a bit more and the earth will open up with light. just keep going.

⚪️ New App: Slate — a voice journal built on one rule: nothing leaves your phone.
100% Apple, top to bottom. Transcription by SpeechAnalyzer on device. Reflection by the 3 billion parameter Apple Intelligence model on the Neural Engine. Storage in SwiftData. Swift 6, SwiftUI, Liquid Glass. Zero third-party code in the binary.
There's no account. No analytics. No tracking. No third party SDKs. No network calls. The app is private because there is nothing to collect. Turn on airplane mode and everything still works. There's no server.
You speak your mind and slate writes it down. It notices patterns and reads your week back to you in a summary every Sunday.
The local model is an observer. It never replies or advises or comforts. When it has nothing real to say, it says nothing.
