I arrived in Zambia September 1974 to commence a journey of a struggle/fight for independence of Namibia. Zambia at 10 years independence took over the mighty task of supporting the total independence of Africa. I salute Zambia @62 today and KK the pianist
On today's Zambian Independence Day, we salute our friends in Zambia!🇿🇲 I am working overtime to finish my biography of Miriam Makeba. (She had me write her autobiography years ago.) Here she is at Zambia's 10th anniversary on October 24, 1974. Too bad about the guy playing the piano for her, I understand his musical career never took off.

📍Namibe - Angola 🇦🇴 - Where the ancient Namib Desert meets the Atlantic Ocean, it’s known for having the world’s oldest desert, and the rare Welwitschia mirabilis plant, a living fossil that can live for hundreds to over a thousand years.

I actually like and appreciate this!
For those wondering about the logs on Magagula’s grave, it’s simply part of the burial tradition being followed by the family. They are temporary while the grave settles naturally through the rainy season. After about a year, once the ground has settled, the family can return to put up a permanent tombstone. Different cultures have different ways of honouring their loved ones. #RIPSANE

Rest in Peace General. The legend still remain in our hearts that you flew and paralyzed Salisbury hence your diplomatic posting to Canada. My generation salute you
Lieutenant General Peter Dingiswayo Zuze has died at the age of 84, following an illness on Monday. For many Namibians, particularly the younger generation, his name may not be immediately familiar, but he played a significant role in the military history of Namibia and Zambia. In 1972, following Zambia’s independence, Zuze became the first indigenous Zambian to command the Zambia Air Force. He later served as Deputy Chief of the Zambia Defence Force before rising to Chief of the Defence Force, a position he held until his retirement from military service in 1978. He later represented Zambia abroad as a diplomat, including postings in Canada, the United Kingdom and at the United Nations. Zuze served as the President of the United Nations Council for Namibia (1988–1991), where he played a key role in mobilizing international action against the illegal exploitation of Namibia's resources and advocating for its independence. Upon the conclusion of his presidency, the Council formally paid tribute to the leadership he provided and the support he brought as a representative of Zambia. David Maraga: The Constitution does not provide for a national tallying centre. The role of IEBC chair is to declare results, not retally votes. We demand that there be no tallying centre at Bomas or anywhere in this country.

Most of the time the “technical partners” take the results with them! For Euro 300K I was being offered Namibia’ s underground water information in the Outjo District in Yugoslavia/Serbia seven years ago
Namibian professionals and technical partners (Germans) have been mapping and developing our groundwater for years especially in Ohangwena region. Why do we need another foreign experts (Chinese) being deployed across all 14 regions for a 2-week feasibility study on borehole drilling? 2 weeks? At 36 years of self rule do we really lack local technical capacity, or is this a financial dependency issue or other agendas? Are local hydrogeologists fully embedded in this exercise to safeguard our strategic data? What happens to the custody of our national groundwater intelligence? Is there something else that we need to know about?

A veteran of the liberation struggle, Tomas Ausiku, better known by his combat name Omukukutu Wambekele, hails from Okafitu-Kakuni in the Outapi Constituency of the Omusati Region. He shared his experiences of war and his reflections on what Heroes’ Day signifies for him with the NBC News team. Ausiku joined the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) at a young age, in his early twenties. He was part of the 8th Battalion and says he was one of the founding members who helped establish the battalion in the early 1980s while in exile. He described his first battle, which took place on 4 May 1978 at Omufitu Washilambo in Angola, as not an easy fight, as they had to fight by all means to ensure they defeated the enemy. This battle, he said, was intense and painful, and it cost them 12 soldiers who were killed during the confrontation. He said he was trained by men well known by their war names, Shindjiwu Shanangula and Kafinana, from Oukwanyama. After independence, Ausiku joined the NDF in 1995 and retired as a staff sergeant in 2018. He now lives in his home, which he describes as being in a peaceful and free Namibia, compared to how it was before. He says Heroes’ Day is an important day, as it makes him feel like a war hero for this country. He urged the youth to respect the day, maintain the peace, and not sell the country.
