In March 2003 Pope John Paul II sent his envoy, Archbishop Laghi, to the Oval Office to implore Pres Bush not to invade Iraq. Bush put the letter aside w/o reading it and asked +Laghi to pray with him. +Laghi responded: "I prayed before I came here."
This is the image Trump wants from a papal visit. And this is a reason Pope Leo won't come while Trump is in the Oval Office.

Cenk, thanks for playing. Everyone knew Lindsey Graham was gay, yes. And since he didn't acknowledge this publicly, we assumed he was invested in keeping it private. This is why the entirety of this platform chided him as Lady Graham. We were not big Graham supporters, if you've paid attention at all. We rightly attacked him for wanting to bomb foreign lands every other week, and I supported his primary opponents. And no, we didn't know of or have some special insider knowledge of tapes or allegations of underage male prostitutes. The question is how long have you known? Were you planning on releasing this against him during the general before he died? Why are you attacking a dead man who can't defend himself? But you did release them now, so are you trying to implicate his sister Darline, as if she did anything wrong here? Do you have any proof that she was complicit? Are you suggesting she arranged his encounters? What exactly are you implying? Isn't it quite understandable, and plausible, that she disagreed with her brother but loved him nonetheless, as many families choose to? And that she likely had no idea about what he did in secret? How long have you been sitting on this nothing burger of an October Surprise, Cenk?
So, how long have conservative groups like @TPUSA known Lindsey Graham was gay and desperate to keep that hidden? How long did they know he had sex with underaged boys? Did they know about the tapes? Do they have the tapes? If they knew all this, why did they keep it hidden?

New tonight regarding bishops meeting with Trump in Oval: USCCB spokesman says: “This was not something that the USCCB organized. It is not affiliated with the Conference. I have no further information.” New report suggests Heritage Foundation (author of Project 2025) organized today’s meeting.

Interesting alternative history: Imagine FDR hadn’t imposed an embargo on Japan. That would likely caused it to choose the northern strategy (invading the USSR) rather than the southern strategy (the push for the Dutch East Indies to get the oil). What would Hitler have done? It’s likely he would have brought forth his invasion of the Soviet Union. And I don’t think Stalin could have successfully fought this kind of two-front war. That would have all kinds of knock on effects on the allied war effort, none of them good.

It's really surreal to imagine the world in early 2029 where Europe has its most far-right set of governments since the 1930s, Latin America is, by and large, dominated by the right, but the U.S. has possibly its most progressive admin in history.

SC DECLARES AS UNCONSTITUTIONAL ₱449.5B IN UNPROGRAMMED FUNDS IN 2024 BUDGET BREAKING: The Supreme Court declares unconstitutional Congress’s ₱449.5-billion increase in unprogrammed appropriations in the 2024 national budget. In a decision announced Tuesday, Oct. 20, the high court also voided the ₱17.99-billion increase in the Public Woks Department's Special Road Fund in the 2025 budget. The SC also struck down provisions on unprogrammed appropriations in the current budget. The court clarified that unprogrammed appropriations are not unconstitutional by themselves but must comply with constitutional limits and fiscal safeguards. Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen wrote the decision. | @TristanNodalo

In the 1950s, portrait photographer Philippe Halsman would ask his subjects to jump in the air so they would loosen up for subsequent shots. Among Halsman's subjects was Judge Learned Hand, then in his 80s. The request resulted in the photo below. smithsonianmag.com/arts-cult…
