September update for my 2027 NBA Draft Big Board 👀
Not calling it my preseason big board b/c that wouldn't be accurate. Most of the overseas teams have already begun their seasons (Dash Daniels, Stefan Joksimovic, etc.)
NCAA season hasn't started yet but it's an NBA Draft Big Board - not an NCAA big board :)
Feedback, questions, likes, retweets are welcome 🤝
It's not what I think will happen. I'm not trying to predict the draft order. It's what my personal big board would look like if I worked for an NBA team - my personal evaluation of the prospects (based on film, stats, age, measurables, etc.) but also factoring in expected role on their team this season (b/c my credibility w/ an NBA team would be lesser if I put a guy at like 11th pick who isn't even projected to get 20 MPG for a college team that isn't even ranked in the top 10, to use a hypothetical example)
That’s training
Years and years. Reps. Hours in the gym. Guarantee he has practiced that shot a lot over the years
You put in the work for moments like that
Very few guys (actually ones 6’8+) who have played in this league could hit that shot
That’s why you put in the work. So you can be one of the few guys who can do it
This one too

The 2028 NBA Draft Class continues to look loaded
As of now I still have JBB at 1 and then after that I think it's pretty wide open w/ all of these guys in tier 2 in the 2-7 range:
Nathan Soliman
Nikola Kusturica
Beckham Black
CJ Rosser
Cayden Daughtry
Demarcus Henry
After that I've got Marcus Spears Jr, Lewis Uvwo, AJ Williams, Ömer Kutluay & Brandon McCoy Jr in tier 3
Starting the High Level High School season off right with ESPN #1 Player in the country Beckham Black vs ESPN #4 Player in the country Cayden Daughtry!
Cayden Daughtry
46!!! Points
6 Assist
6 Boards
Beckham Black
19 Points
9 Assist
7 Boards
CJ Rosser (ESPN #3 Player in the country)
24 Points
8 Boards
5 Steals
Knicks have very good PR training
Well, except for maybe Hart lol
Impossible to not like/respect this guy
Knicks signing him was one of the best FA signings of all time
Michael Cooper, Bobby Jones, Bobby Dandridge, John Salley, Ron Harper, Mario Elie, Derek Fisher, Jeff Hornacek, Lindsey Hunter, Robert Horry, Danny Ainge, Doug Christie, Eric Snow, Aaron McKie, Charles Oakley, Bobby Jackson, Dale Davis, PJ Brown, Bruce Bowen, etc.
Ah, the good ole days.
When we could tell who the really good role players were by just watching the games. We didn't need spreadsheets, analytics or queries to tell us 🤝
Nikola Jokic is friends with Nikola Topic
Nikola Jokić on if he’s nervous for the season opener:
“ To be honest, I'm going to see my friend Nikola Topic in Oklahoma. So, we're going to have dinner. We're going to probably watch some games, have some fun.
I’m not going to feel nervous. but I think I always feel nervous before the game. I think that's normal. And it should be like that. I think that that's why I'm playing this sport because of that.”
PSA:
Plus minus on a 1 game sample size is basically meaningless
That small of a sample size, it’s typically too heavily influenced by how good your teammates happen to be playing that night
Basketball is a game of runs. If you happen to be on the floor during a big run in, it’ll swing your plus minus for that game a lot
Even though there was 10 players on the floor for that run & not all of them had the same impact during the run
This kind of stuff tends to normalize a bit w/ a larger sample of an 82 game season (or probably like 50+ games, at least
But single game sample sizes? I take that w/ a grain of salt for any stat - but especially plus minus
Some really impressive stuff vs Tennessee by Pat Ngongba
If he keeps this up & can stay healthy, I'll likely put him in the top 10 of my big board

Walk with me:
Starters
Longley - Robinson
Rodman - Walsh
Pippen - PG13
Jordan - Tatum
Harper - DWhite
Bench
Kukoc (as far as a guy who's good enough to start but comes off the bench but still gets like 15-18ish PPG while helping in other areas as well) - Pritchard
Bill Wennington - Queta
Jud Buechler (scrappy wing off the bench) - Harper/Baylor/Hugo
Scott Burrell (wing shooter off the bench, more of a pure 3&D guy) - Hauser
Jason Caffey - Garza
Randy Brown - Conley
Yes, that is one reason why Hugo Gonzalez' 3PT% in his pre-draft season w/ Real Madrid made him look like a worse shooter than he really is
Lots of really low minute games...very rarely played enough mins in a game to be in sufficient rhythm
Then got more playing time w/ the Celtics last season (plus being another year older & more developed) led to better shooting last season
I think a lot of it has to do with playing in a rhythm. Clayton for example shot extremely well in the games he started and played for Memphis last season.
What I'm learning is there's a big difference between guys who can shoot when playing big minutes and guys who can come off the bench ice cold and be efficient on limited attempts. Those 0-1, 0-2 and 1-3 games off the bench add up to low percentages.
Really poor wording lol
I’m sure many people read just the first line real quick & thought he was out for season 🤦♂️
Gradey Dick as well
Jordan Hawkins after 3 years in the league is only on a 2-way
To a lesser extent Jett Howard, Caleb Houstan & Jase Richardson (all struggled to crack the rotation of a Magic team that desperately needed shooting)
