I used to buy big surplus computers like Crays and SGI then paint them orange. Why? Idk...they were relatively useless but interesting to use.

I got several schools and museums equipment, artifacts, and displays from NASA only for those places to throw them away in short time. I could of sent them elsewhere. I will never do it again.

When our astronomy club decided to no longer take membership dues and to get rid of our bank accounts we bought a few libraries some telescopes for patrons to check out. I don't want to know what happened to those. Maybe I'll go check.....😬

I still wonder if the Clinton Presidential Library wasn't a joke on the state of Arkansas.

This was the moment I learned my lesson when I was choosing a school to give our solar eclipse project equipment to and two different educators said "don't do it, they'll throw it away at the end of the school year". I already learned of the other telescopes thrown away we gave other schools. Now we use it for public and club star parties. Though I have zero use for the FLIR polarized infrared camera we used to image the Sun's lower and middle corona during the eclipse. I ran some experiments with it but if you have an idea let me know.

Last night I decided to watch Saving Private Ryan with my new post seizures brain. I have a difficult time getting into fiction lately. It's definitely interesting to rewatch shows. I haven't seen this movie in 10+ years. I was thinking how lucky I am to be older, big, and ugly so I wouldn't be cast in most infantry roles. Those looked rough in that movie. I need to watch a behind the scenes doc. The stunt dudes definitely did some work. I couldn't get over how white and straight a lot of their teeth were 🤦‍♂️ A lot of comedians were cast in all sorts of roles.

Some of the more serious thoughts I had were how crazy the things are humans do to each other on a massive scale. We're lucky those dudes defeated the Nazis because there's no telling what the world would look like. How long will the cemetery be on Normandy beach? I bet a few hundred years at least outside of some disaster. Most cemeteries last 100 or so but that one is extra special. From satellite images I see much of Omaha beach is still used for recreation besides a "memorial gap". It's a tough situation to read and think about. Looking at the maps really sets it in.

The best advice I ever received from a director happened while getting robbed in a scene was "look scared not scary".

One fun way to boost engagement on a post is to make a small grammatical error.

I heard from an archeologist friend it's also a problem with historical artifacts. A lot of small museums are ran by whoever took the job for a usually low wage. Many don't have archives or an archivist. School excuses with expensive scientific equipment is they tend to start fresh with new administration or new teachers.

One that really hurt was a very expensive 6" refractor telescope a company offered if we found a school. Well we had a local school that took up a space theme so we picked them. They took it with all sorts of fanfare. They got a new principal a few months later and they smashed the telescope to bits before they threw it away. They could have sold it for stupid money.

There's an annoying street preacher who the city and various people try to shut up convincing him the 1st amendment doesn't apply to him. He's nice and well meaning. Someone from the city heard me telling him the correct permit to get and they about lost their minds. I'm not religious that way but he's a recovering addict and might help someone. He's a good balance to our bar district. They are rough on him because his mentor/the guy he mimics is mean to people. They think they're the same.

Many religions are a good guide how to act in general if it's not perverted by someone.

I had to interact with surly boomers several times lately. Out of respect I usually stay quiet when they say something stupid. Recently I had to tell one he's not a billionaire with secret service protection. Dude was visiting our city and wasn't used to seeing so many black folks so he got mouthy.

Probably one of my biggest product faux pas that ended up all over the place years ago. I took this product photo on my junk pile as usual but I left the shipping cap on the bottle.... I noticed after it was widely used 🤦‍♂️
