Migratory birds arrived in Malta seeking shelter from the storms, only to face illegal hunting.
@BirdLifeEurope raises the alarm over the massive killing of protected birds in Malta.
Our migratory birds need stronger protection, not weaker laws.

If waders are 'asked' to carry tracking devices, we need to make full use of the data, as discussed here:

Göç yolculuğunda pek çok tehlikeyle karşı karşıya olan leylekler, bu yolculuktan asla vazgeçmiyor. Baharı müjdeleyerek kilometrelerce yol kat ediyor.
Yalıtımsız elektrik hatları, kaybolan sulak alanlar ve insan kaynaklı tehditler leyleklerin yaşamını riske atıyor. Leylekler güvenle uçsun diye 48. İstanbul Maratonu’ndayız.

North Africa is a critical region for migratory birds, including threatened species that pass through either before or after crossing the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, illegal killing, taking and trade put them at high risk. 🐦
Reports from the region show that threatened species such as the European Turtle Dove are caught in large numbers. Songbirds are also illegally trapped in high quantities and illegal online bird sales have increased.
That is why government and NGO experts are meeting in Tangier, Morocco, for a three-day workshop on national action plans to tackle the illegal killing, taking and trade of migratory birds.
Organized by the CMS Secretariat on behalf of the Intergovernmental Task Force on Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade of Migratory Birds in the Mediterranean (MIKT), together with Morocco’s National Agency for Water and Forests, the workshop will focus on how to develop, implement and monitor these plans.
