On 24 May 2024 Royal Assent was granted to The Victims and Prisoners Act. The Act places Operation Encompass as a statutory requirement for all police forces.

Today, the new measures that @libdems campaigned for to create a specific category of domestic abuse offender in the law have come into force.
Thank you to all those survivors and charities (and govt) who fought for this change that will keep victims safer for the future.

I dont always agree with Dame Vera Baird, but this am on @BBCr4today she was absolutely right in all she said. Also as Chair of the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), she has led a landmark effort to overturn the criminal convictions of grooming gang victims. Total respect.

Why are women victims of domestic abuse, who have offended when in the grip of their abuser, not being given early prison release, when domestic abuse perpetrators are??
"We really should look at letting some women out."

Children experiencing domestic violence is a recognised adverse childhood experience (ACE). This trauma will impact the child’s life unless it’s mitigated. The programme @operationencomp provides immediate support. The State informed about this prog since May 2020. So why delay?
