About 390 million light-years away, the galaxy Z 229-15 shines in this #HubbleFriday image!
Its luminous heart is caused by a disk of material heating as it swirls toward the black hole at the galaxy's core: go.nasa.gov/40uKG1z
ALT A spiral galaxy. It has two almost-straight arms coming from the left and right of the core that meet a starry ring around the galaxy’s edge. The ring is bluish in color, and the core is golden and shining. A faint halo of light also surrounds the galaxy. There is one bright star with many diffraction spikes, and a few small stars all around on a black background.

Saturn is known for its iconic rings.
And with Hubble's help, now we know that these rings are also heating the giant planet's upper atmosphere!
This could provide a tool for predicting if planets around other stars have ring systems as well. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/3ZtFlWV
ALT This ultraviolet Hubble image shows the planet Saturn tilted on its side, encircled by dark blue rings against a black backdrop of space. The planet's surface shows blue bands varying in brightness based on hydrogen emissions detected.
