Yesterday, the Vice President of @PharmacistsUg and I had the pleasure of engaging with the Vice Chancellor and some members of @MbararaUST Management and Council during the University's 33rd Graduation Ceremony. We congratulated MUST Management this important milestone and took the opportunity to clarify some of the misrepresentations that may have arisen during the recent public discourse surrounding pharmacy training at the University. We also emphasised the importance of strengthening the longstanding relationship between PSU and MUST, with both institutions working even more closely to safeguard the quality of pharmacy education and ensure compliance with national standards. MUST Management reaffirmed the University's commitment to quality pharmacy training and the continued support of its Pharmacy Programme. We were also assured that appropriate measures are underway to address the outstanding issues previously raised by PSU. It was a cordial and constructive engagement, reaffirming our shared understanding that, notwithstanding our distinct institutional mandates, we have a common responsibility to advance quality pharmacy education and strengthen the pharmaceutical workforce in Uganda.

On behalf of the @PharmacistsUg, I acknowledge with appreciation the invitation from the National Council for Higher Education (@nche_uganda) to a consultative meeting on pharmacy training in Uganda scheduled for Tuesday, 27 October 2026. I commend NCHE for initiating this timely and important engagement following our request. As the professional body mandated to advance pharmacy practice, PSU welcomes constructive dialogue on accreditation, professional training standards, institutional compliance and regulatory coordination. We look forward to meaningful engagement that strengthens collaboration, safeguards the quality of pharmacy education and advances the training of a competent, fit-for-purpose pharmaceutical workforce for Uganda. Together, let us put quality, professionalism and the public interest at the heart of pharmacy education.

Today, I had the privilege of leading a PSU Council delegation comprising the Vice President, @MugideNuru; Treasurer, @osborntushabe; and Chairperson, Welfare, Dr Faisal Karekoona, in a meeting with the Group CEO of @AbacusPharmaLtd, Mr Ramesh Babu, and his management team, alongside current PSU–Abacus scholars. Since 2008, @PharmacistsUg and @AbacusPharmaLtd have sustained a remarkable partnership supporting bright but financially disadvantaged students pursuing pharmacy at @Makerere and @MbararaUST. To date, over 70 students have benefited from this transformative initiative. Today’s engagement, attended by 15 current scholars and representatives of two interns, reaffirmed our shared commitment to the scheme and marked a significant milestone: increasing the cumulative undergraduate scholarship allocation from 20 to 25, extending eligibility to Gulu and Busitema Universities, and introducing two additional annual scholarships for postgraduate pharmacy specialty training. On behalf of PSU Council, I extend our profound gratitude to Abacus Group for over 15 years of exemplary partnership and its immense contribution to pharmacy workforce development in Uganda. We particularly appreciate their commitment to expanding opportunities for specialised pharmacy training. In the coming weeks, PSU will announce applications for this academic year’s undergraduate and postgraduate scholarship opportunities. Together, we continue investing in the future of pharmacy and healthcare in Uganda.
