🚸 As schools reopen, we remind all road users to exercise extra caution around school zones, pedestrian crossings, and bus stops.
Drivers are urged to reduce speed, avoid distractions, and give priority to children crossing the road.
Let’s keep our learners safe this school term. 🚸🚌

On average, a driver takes about 0.5 seconds to react after perceiving a hazard, this includes seeing the danger, deciding what to do & moving the foot to the brake.
At higher speeds, this short time translates into a longer distance covered, increasing the risk of a crash.
Let us observe speed limits

Primary school children face daily risks on roads. Many walk long distances to and from school, often along busy highways while others rely on motorcycles without adequate protective gear. Due to their age, limited ability to judge speed and distance and natural playfulness, children are vulnerable to road dangers. This is reflected in national road crash statistics, where children frequently appear among victims either as pedestrians or passengers losing their lives or sustaining serious injuries.
It is against this background that we have taken deliberate steps to extend road safety campaigns to primary schools. These initiatives aim to equip pupils with essential knowledge and practical skills to keep themselves safe. The campaign emphasizes simple but life-saving principles such as safe road crossing, visibility, and responsible road behavior.
We have also distributed helmets and reflective jackets. Reflective jackets make children more visible to motorists, while helmets provide critical head protection in the event of a crash.
It is important to note that ensuring the safety of children on the road is a shared responsibility. Parents and guardians are strongly urged to take an active role in safeguarding their children. Motorists and the general public are equally called upon to exercise caution, particularly in school zones and residential areas.
We remain committed to securing our children on the roads through sustained safety enforcement, education and community engagement. These efforts aim to foster a culture of responsible road use and reduce the number of preventable crashes involving children.
We thank our partners @itmsug for their invaluable contribution in providing child helmets and reflective jackets. Their support has enhanced the effectiveness of this particular campaign.
Together, we can make our roads safer for our children because every child deserves a safe journey to and from school @PoliceUg @MoWT_Uganda @Educ_SportsUg

Today’s Office: At the Uganda Road Safety Conference, 2025!
A spirited 2- day conversation around safer roads for all Ugandans. Just noted these…..;
⚠️Road safety is a concerted effort, do not leave it to Government alone, play your part!
⚠️On The Automated Express Penalty Scheme. It’s not out to trap you. It will REWARD compliance and DETER recklessness. If you’re obeying traffic rules, there’s nothing to worry about!
⚠️The goal is to save lives, not issue fines. If you’re complying, the penalties won’t touch you!
⚠️Ever thought about the pressure extra luggage puts on your tyres?
At high speeds, overloaded vehicles, buses, become ticking time bombs!
The conference is hosted by @MoWT_Uganda in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations under the Road Safety Coalition of Uganda, ROSACU. @ROSACUg
