Corn harvest is progressing quickly and yields are strong at Triple Run Farms. We greatly appreciate their willingness to better assess hybrids on diverse Delta soils. Thanks to Adron, Alex, eight participating seed companies and all involved. 🌽#mscorn #msuext #corn

Despite rain coinciding with tasseling, you can still fully benefit from urea applied later. Sustaining N through grain fill is not reliant on pre-tassel timing. Soil does need to be dry to allow incorporation. Also, fertilizer will not hamper pollination. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext

Buggy-whipping often occurs as corn recovers from freeze. This happens as new growth temporarily hangs on dead vegetation. They should soon pull free with little adverse effects. For reference, the corn in the last photo still made over 250 bu/a despite severe hail damage. 🌽

We should begin to see green leaves re-emerging from freeze burnt corn. Warm, sunny weather will promote growth, so this should help. However, it will be next week before we can fully assess survival. 🌽#mscorn #msuext #mscrops #corn #freeze

Harvest aids will be needed in some #corn fields. However, take care to spray them only after black-layer, since killing corn prematurely will halt grain fill. This layer completes kernel growth and isolates them from the plant. Thus, grain drying is unaffected. 🌽#mscorn

Altering your late corn #irrigation schedule is a great opportunity to improve #ROI. Corn’s water use drops off nearly half compared to peak use as it nears maturity. Thus, you can prolong intervals and use a drier threshold. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #plant25 #corn

Incessant rain dictates multi-faceted nitrogen plans for #corn since soggy soils ⬆️ extensive N loss and ⬇️ yield. Thus, matching N timing, rate and source relative to corn need improve ROI greatly. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #plant25 #fertility #highyield #ag #farming #efficiency
