A couple of years ago, right before Remembrance Day, I went to Paris to visit a buddy who was there for work. I stopped to buy a poppy from an elderly veteran Legion member at the Ottawa airport. We talked for a bit, as I had some time to kill before my flight. 1/-

Today in 1922, France grants one square kilometre at Vimy Ridge "freely, and for all time, to the Government of Canada, the free use of the land exempt from all taxes." The land is still French soil, despite popular belief. On that land, the Vimy Memorial is built.
