Just to say... "Hands washing" puts responsibility on the individual. "Cleaning the air" puts responsibility on public health officials.

Beautiful moment when the rally, which had split in two columns, got a view of each-other.

No graduate student worker should be struggling to make ends meet when Boston University has a $3 billion endowment. These workers deserve a living wage and strong benefits. Boston University must bargain a fair contract immediately.
Boston is a union town and BU is a union campus. Together with adjunct professors and res life workers, we will make sure of it. #BUGWUonStrike

A pun that could only be in Canadian English (or at least not in American English): A restaurant near my apartment doing an all-you-can eat pasta dinner, calling it the "All Access Pass(ta)".

I don't think in terms of not catching Covid. I think in terms of reducing the risk of catching Covid, with the intention of catching it as few times as possible, and spreading it as little as possible.

Between the MBTA action and this one, we have won 4% more in raises *before* our first contract. BU knows that we are powerful, but we are only just getting started. We are heading to the bargaining table this summer ready to fight for a living wage and much more.

It’s important to acknowledge that asking how ASL impacts spoken English inherently privileges spoken English. This is not our intention. We thought this study was worthwhile because spoken language is often a consideration in decisions about what language(s) deaf kids learn.

New paper! “Learning a Sign Language does not Hinder Acquisition of a Spoken Language.” This study provides evidence that families with deaf children can pursue ASL without concern of negative impact on spoken English development. 🧵 pubs.asha.org/doi/10.1044/20…

as inflation rises and boston gets harder and harder to live in on our stipends, BU has decided that we're not worthy of a cost of living increase this year because ... we got one last year that was roughly half of the inflation rate

So, pending further research, @gradworkersofBU's win today appears to be the most lopsided NLRB election win **ever** by a bargaining unit more than 1000 people. I said it before and I'll say it again: DAMN

2,664 Americans died of Covid last week, while we were celebrating the end of the pandemic and traveling the country for the holidays. The coming weeks & months are going to be extremely painful.

We are not only seeing high levels of COVID, but we are also seeing surges in several respiratory viruses all at once. Masks work against all airborne viruses. Why are we willfully ignoring valuable lessons of the last two years just to go "back to normal"?
